I’ve shared this before. But it’s so important to shut your bedroom doors at night. Especially your kids doors. It could literally save a life.

My son would always leave his door cracked open. As he got older I’d say Devon shut your door. He told me Dad you’ll missing shutting my door someday. Well he wasn’t wrong it was something I missed when he finally started doing it. I still check it every night on my way to bed though.

Proof that Closing your bedroom door before you fall asleep makes a difference.

We’re looking at a Flash Flood Watch in effect for Montgomery County from tonight until tomorrow at 8:00 PM. You might be wondering why these specific storms are such a washout. The forecast calls for "slow-moving" storms, which means instead of a quick shower passing through, these storm cells stall out and dump massive amounts of heavy rain over the exact same geographical area for an extended period. When this rainfall rate exceeds how fast the ground or our local storm drains can absorb it, the water has nowhere to go but up, rapidly turning streets into rivers. Think of it like trying to chug a gallon of water in ten seconds—your stomach can't process it that fast, and neither can the ground!

Because these waters can rise in a matter of minutes, we need everyone to stay alert and play it safe. First and foremost, Turn Around, Don't Drown. Just 6 inches of moving water can knock you off your feet or cause you to lose control of your vehicle, and only 18 to 24 inches is needed to float a car completely away. Please avoid driving through low-lying areas and underpasses, as they can fill rapidly and become incredibly dangerous. Finally, seek higher ground if you live in a flood-prone area and notice waters starting to rise. Let’s keep Station 34’s water rescues to a solid zero tonight and tomorrow —stay dry, grab a good book, and let the storm pass!
