Disaster Assistance Activated for Crawford

DENISON, IOWA – On April 20th, 2026, Governor Kim Reynolds issued a State of Disaster Emergency Proclamation for several counties, including Crawford County, in response to the hailstorm that caused significant damage to the area on April 15th, 2026. Prior to the state action, Crawford County enacted a local disaster proclamation on April 16th, 2026, to support response and recovery efforts at the county level.

Governor Reynolds’ proclamation allows state resources to be utilized to respond and recover from the effects of this storm and activates the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and the Disaster Case Advocacy Program for the affected counties. The proclamation is effective immediately and will remain in effect for 30 days unless terminated or extended.

As a result of the proclamation, State Individual Assistance and Disaster Case Advocacy services are now available to eligible Crawford County residents who were affected by the hailstorm on April 15th, 2026. These services are intended for individuals and families who have disaster-related needs that cannot be met through other forms of assistance.

An Individual Assistance and Disaster Case Advocacy representative will be available in Denison for one-on-one, walk in support:

WHERE: Crawford County Courthouse, 1st Floor Conference Room
DATE: Wednesday, April 22nd, 2026
TIME: 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Residents may come at any time during these hours; no appointment is required. The advocate will work with individuals and families to discuss available assistance options, help identify unmet needs, and connect them with local, state, and nonprofit resources.

The Disaster Assistance Request Form and instructions can be found on the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management website at www.homelandsecurity.iowa.gov/assistance. For more information on disaster-related programs and resources available to Iowans, visit the Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Department website at homelandsecurity.iowa.gov, and for preparedness information about the types of disasters that can occur in Iowa, visit ready.iowa.gov.

Crawford County Emergency Management encourages any resident impacted by the April 15th, 2026, hailstorm to attend the in-person assistance event or visit the listed websites to learn more about available resources.

For additional information about eligibility, required documentation, or other disaster-related questions, please contact Crawford County Emergency Management at (712) 571-8241 or [email protected].
