Between screen time, seasonal allergies, and dry indoor air, your eyes are working overtime. The good news: most environmental eye strain is preventable. Try the 20-20-20 rule (every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds). Also, keep artificial tears handy, and consider a humidifier for dry indoor air or an air purifier for air that may be smoky or smoggy. Regular eye exams through vision insurance can also catch more serious problems early, before they affect your daily life.

⚠️ Do you get help lowering your monthly ACA Marketplace health insurance premium? That financial help is called an advance premium tax credit. It’s based partly on the income you expect to earn for the year, and if your actual income or circumstances change, you could end up receiving more assistance than you qualify for.

Starting with the 2026 tax year, repayment caps for excess advance premium tax credits no longer apply. If you receive more financial assistance than you ultimately qualify for, you may have to repay the full difference when you file your federal tax return.

💡 Income or household changes during the year? Update your Marketplace information promptly. Keeping it current can help reduce the risk of an unexpected tax bill.

If someone calls and already knows your name, your age, and your address, that does not make them legitimate. Criminals often start with information they already have and only need one more piece from you.

Medicare-related scam calls have climbed sharply over the past year. Some people report getting dozens in a single day. The pitches are predictable once you know them. Your card is expiring. You qualify for unclaimed benefits. A free brace or hearing aid is on the way.

They all want the same thing: your Medicare number.

A few things to remember: Medicare generally contacts you by mail first and does not call to ask for your Medicare number or bank information. A real licensed agent will give you their name and license number without hesitation, and will not push you to decide today.

If someone claims to be from an agency, hang up and call that agency's main number yourself. Anyone honest will not mind.

What is the strangest scam call you have received? Share it below so your neighbors know what to listen for.

You wake up feeling fine. Then you check your sleep score, see a 62, and suddenly the whole day feels heavier.

Sleep researchers have a name for this. In a 2017 paper, clinicians described patients so focused on improving their tracker data that the effort was making their sleep worse. They called it orthosomnia.

Here is the catch. Your wrist device measures movement and heart rate, then estimates the rest. It is reasonably good at total sleep time and much less reliable at telling you how much deep or REM sleep you got. Two devices will give you two different answers about the same night.

There is also research showing that people told they slept poorly performed worse on attention tasks, regardless of how they actually slept. The belief did real work.

If you want to keep tracking, read trends over weeks instead of grading individual nights. And notice how you feel before you look at a number.

The basics still do the heavy lifting. Same wake time, morning daylight, cool dark room.

Do you check your sleep score every morning? Be honest. 😅

Driving, delivering, freelancing, consulting, creating. Millions of Americans work as independent contractors.

None of it comes with a benefits package.

If you work for yourself, you are your own HR department. Finding a health insurance plan is usually not the hardest part. It is that coverage decisions assume you know what you will earn this year, and gig income rarely cooperates. Estimate your income too low and you could owe money back at tax time. Estimate too high and you paid more every month than you needed to.

One more thing people forget. If you recently left a traditional job, you did not just lose the health plan. You likely lost dental, vision, disability coverage, and a life insurance policy you may not have known you had. For anyone whose income depends on being physically able to work, that disability piece matters.

Open enrollment for individual coverage opens in early November, so now is the time to sort it out. Want help comparing your options? Reach out. There is no cost to talk.

Managing a chronic condition like diabetes or heart failure means a lot of moving parts.

Appointments, medications, and specialists all add up.

A Chronic Condition Special Needs Plan (C-SNP) is a type of Medicare Advantage Plan built for that. Each plan focuses on a specific condition or group of related conditions.

Depending on the plan, a C-SNP may include:

⚪ Doctors and specialists experienced with your condition
⚪ A care coordinator to help manage your treatment
⚪ Prescription drug coverage shaped around your needs
⚪ A yearly limit on your out-of-pocket costs for covered Part A and Part B services

To qualify, you need Medicare Part A and Part B, you have to live in the plan's service area, and your condition must be confirmed by your medical records.

A C-SNP is one option among several, so it helps to compare before you decide.

Have questions about whether a C-SNP fits your situation? Send us a message. We're glad to walk you through your options.
