Do ACA Plans Cover Dental & Vision? Here’s What You Need to Know
If you’re enrolling in an Affordable Care Act (ACA) plan this year, you may be asking, “Does it include dental or vision?” The short answer: not for adults.
👉 Adults
Dental and vision coverage are not automatically included in ACA medical plans. To get coverage, you’ll need to either:
• Buy a standalone dental or vision plan, or
• Choose a bundled plan that includes dental (less common, but available in some areas).
👉 Kids (under 19)
Pediatric dental and vision must be available on the Marketplace, but not every medical plan includes them — sometimes you need a separate dental policy.
Why This Coverage Still Matters
• Oral health impacts your overall health
• Eye exams can detect early disease
• Emergencies like root canals or broken glasses get expensive very quickly
What These Plans Usually Cover
🦷 Dental: cleanings, X-rays, fillings, crowns, root canals
👀 Vision: annual exams, glasses or contacts allowances, LASIK discounts
Before enrolling, consider:
✔ Do you have a dentist or eye doctor you want in-network?
✔ How often do you need care?
✔ What’s your budget for add-on plans?
Good news: You do have options — from standalone plans to bundled coverage. If you’re not sure what’s included or what you need, we can help you compare your choices with no pressure.
Take care of your eyes, your teeth, and your peace of mind this year. 💙
