While everyone is hard at work cleaning up after the derecho and EF-2 tornado, we want to warn our residents that scammers are hard at work also. Please, if you are approached or contacted by contractors of any sort offering to rebuild, fix or repair your home, clean up debris or offer assistance around your home and property, take the time to make sure that they are reputable, licensed professionals who are also insured and bonded to perform the work. Don't let scammers and fake contractors take advantage of you and make a bad situation worse! A list of registered contractors vetted through the Town can be found on the Town's website. You can also always call us at 219.365.4800 x3 and verify the potential contractor's status with the Town as well.

🚨🚨 ALERT! NIPSCO JUST RELEASED THE RESTORATION TIMELINE NORTHWEST INDIANA HAS BEEN WAITING FOR. 🚨🚨

NIPSCO has finally provided its first system-wide estimate for when power will be restored following the largest and most destructive outage event in company history.

Approximately 90% of impacted customers are expected to have power restored by 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, August 18.

NIPSCO expects restoration to reach 100% of customers by 11:59 p.m. Friday, August 21.

The big question everyone in Portage and the rest of Northwest Indiana is asking is whether their town will be Tuesday, Friday, or somewhere in between.

Unfortunately, NIPSCO does NOT have that answer yet.

Community-specific restoration estimates are currently being developed and are expected to be released Sunday evening, August 16.

Damage varies dramatically throughout Northwest Indiana, which means some communities and neighborhoods will get power back considerably sooner than others.

Crews are also continuing to discover additional damage, so these estimates could change as repairs progress.

Another important update is that NIPSCO's automated outage notification system is currently unavailable because of the unprecedented volume of outages. Customers should not expect the normal text or email restoration alerts right now.

For everyone in Portage, Chesterton, Valparaiso, Hobart, Crown Point, Merrillville, Gary, Michigan City and throughout Northwest Indiana, Sunday evening is now the next major update to watch.

Until then, people ARE getting power back, crews ARE making progress, and thousands of workers continue working through an absolutely historic amount of damage.

Thank you to every lineman, contractor, first responder and public works crew that has been grinding through this disaster.

If your power comes back, PLEASE comment with your town, street and approximately what time it was restored so the rest of Northwest Indiana can see where progress is happening.

Share this everywhere. People need to know what NIPSCO just announced.
