The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors has approved asking the Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority to allow the county to join.

The request comes as the county looks for the most efficient and effective option for its jail facility needs. The board determined that joining the Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority would be a cost-efficient solution.

The board also endorsed construction of the Pittsylvania County Public Safety Memorial. The privately funded memorial, managed through a community-led committee, is proposed to honor the men and women who have served the county in fire, rescue, emergency medical services and public safety communications, including those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

The proposed memorial would be located on county-owned property along Main Street in Chatham, across from the public safety building.
