The older I get, the more I understand why my mom always said, “You'll understand when you're older.”🤣

Maybe they went to bed ridiculously early.

Kept every container because “you never know when you’ll need it.”

Had a very specific chair that nobody else was supposed to sit in.

Turned the lights off behind EVERYONE.

Or got genuinely excited about staying home and doing absolutely nothing.

At the time, I didn’t get it.

Now?

I catch myself saying the EXACT same things I swore I'd never say.

Apparently becoming your parents sneaks up on you. 🤣

Your mailbox isn't the only thing getting more Medicare-y during AEP. 😂

Your phone, inbox, and TV are about to join the party too.

You may see ads promising extra benefits, get calls about Medicare plans, or receive texts that make it sound like you need to act RIGHT NOW.

And here's what I want you to remember:

An ad is designed to get your attention. It isn't designed around your specific healthcare needs.

That benefit they're talking about might sound fantastic.

But does the plan include your doctors?

How does it cover your prescriptions?

What could you pay if you end up in the hospital?

Does that shiny extra benefit even matter to you?

THOSE are the questions that should drive your decision.

So when you see an ad that makes you think, “Wait...should I have that?” don't make a decision based on the commercial.

Ask me about it.

Seriously. Screenshot it. Send me the mailer. Tell me what you heard on TV.

I'd much rather help you figure out whether it actually matters for YOU than have you make a coverage decision based on a 30-second commercial.

“How much life insurance do I need?”

It sounds like it should have a nice, neat formula.

Income × some magic number = done.

Except your paycheck probably isn’t the only thing your family would need to replace.

When I’m helping someone think through the number, we may also look at things like:

🏠 Mortgage or other debt

💵 How many years of income would need to be replaced

👧 Childcare costs

🎓 Future education expenses

⚰ Final expenses

💰 Savings and other resources already available

❤ What you’d want life to look like financially for the people left behind

And that number can look VERY different from one household to another.

So instead of asking, “What multiple of my salary should I have?”

A better question is:

“What would my family actually need financially if my income disappeared tomorrow?”

That’s the math that matters.

20% coinsurance.

They may look like two different ways of saying, “You'll owe something.”

But they can lead to VERY different bills. 😬

A copay is typically a set dollar amount. So if your plan says you have a $40 specialist copay, you generally know what you'll owe for that covered visit.

Coinsurance is a percentage of the cost. So if your share is 20%, the dollar amount you owe depends on the cost of the covered service.

And that's why I don't want you comparing Medicare plans based on the monthly premium alone.

A plan might have a premium you love, but what will you pay when you actually USE your coverage?

Specialist visits?

Hospital stays?

Outpatient procedures?

Those numbers can matter a whole lot more if you end up needing quite a bit of care next year.

That's why my 2027 Medicare Plan Review Checklist includes the costs beyond the premium that you'll want to compare.

I went as Strawberry Shortcake, and I had the hat, the red hair, the whole strawberry-scented fantasy.

Was it actually as good as I remember?

Irrelevant.

In my memory, I absolutely nailed it. 🎃

You may have heard about Medicare negotiating prices for certain prescription drugs.

Well...there's another round coming for 2027. 💊

The first 10 negotiated drug prices went into effect in 2026.

Starting January 1, 15 additional Part D drugs will have negotiated prices.

So naturally, the question is:

“Is one of MY prescriptions on that list?”

And that's exactly the question I want you asking.

Because Medicare drug changes are interesting, but what actually matters is whether any of them affect the medications YOU take and what you'll pay for them next year.

This is also why I keep asking you for an updated prescription list during AEP. 😂

Your medications are one of the biggest pieces of the puzzle when we're comparing your 2027 coverage.

Some sounds just feel like safety. 🤍🐾

For me, it’s hearing my pup’s sleepy little snores and knowing he’s comfortable, safe, and at peace.

It’s a reminder that some of the best things in life are the quiet moments we don’t think twice about and that protecting the life we love is one of the most meaningful things we can do.

Because peace of mind isn’t just about today. It’s about feeling prepared for tomorrow, too.
