Fall is in the air. Fresh crisp air, unless you are in the country, then it's more like mulch and animal doo-doo. After summer, the best time to travel is in the fall. The leaves are changing, creating a gorgeous carpet of color on the mountains. Driving along the Skyline in Virginia, wandering through the farmlands of Maryland, or driving down 81 through the Appalachian Mountains in West Virginia, the views are spectacular, the small-town farmer's markets full of delicious fruits and vegetables, and you might even see some interesting critters.
