The Hospital Window

There were two men, both seriously ill, who shared the same hospital room. One man got a seat next to the room’s only window. The man was also allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help him drain fluids from his lungs. The other man spent all his time lying flat on his back.

The two roommates quickly bonded and started talking for hours on end.

As a woman walked down the streets one day, she spotted a beggar. The man looked pretty old, unshaven and ill-dressed. Every passerby looked at him with contempt; Not like they had anything against him, but merely because of who he was- a filthy beggar.

But when this particular woman saw him, she was filled with compassion.

When they needed an extra set of hands…

After a couple of successful missions:
I remember…It was around Thanksgiving…
We had off from school and…
My Pop said…
“I want you to come into the shop tomorrow…
You’re old enough to start working in the field…
You shouldn’t be hanging around playing outside all the time”…

Did you ever walk along the railroad tracks…

When you were a kid…

I remember…when we were very young…
Maybe 5 or 6…

My Grandmom Callahan….
Lived down the street from the tracks
In Lindenwold…

Occasionally…we would drive down to visit her…

We would walk down the street with our uncles…
We then had to walk up a small hill…
To where the railroad tracks were and …
They would tell us about the tracks…

My Pop owned a Plumbing Company
Along with his Dad (George Sr) and his brother (Uncle Bill)…

My cousins and I used to hang around the shop…(as we called it)…
For it was down the street from our school…

Growing up around a bunch of plumbers
Gave us an early introduction and appreciation
To a whole different world…
