🚴⚡ E-Bike Safety & Insurance 101
E-bikes are growing in popularity – but they come with risks:

⚠️ Higher speeds = more severe accident injuries
⚠️ Lithium-ion batteries can pose fire hazards
⚠️ Limited bike lanes increase collision risks
⚠️ Rules vary by community for where you can ride

Most Class 1 & Class 2 e-bikes are allowed on roads, bike lanes, side paths, shared-use paths, and trails – but Class 1, 2, and 3 e-bikes are typically not allowed on sidewalks.

Illinois doesn’t require e-bike liability insurance, but we recommend it. Depending on your e-bike’s speed, your homeowners policy may cover it – or you might need auto or motorcycle coverage.

Whether you ride for commuting, fitness, or fun, make sure you’re protected and know the rules in your area!
