Did you count them all? 👀

Our brains have a funny way of skipping over things it doesn’t expect to be important.

That’s actually a pretty good analogy for insurance.

We naturally focus on the premium.
We probably look at the coverage limit.
We might notice the deductible.
We maaaybe read the endorsements?

Some of the most important details can be hiding in the fine print—exclusions, endorsements, limitations and conditions.

Sometimes what you don’t notice is just as important as what you do.

That’s why I’m here! Not just to give you a quote, but to help you understand what you’re actually buying.

There’s one thing I know — there are few things worse than spending a significant amount of money on something you don’t even understand. Am I right?? 👀

September is Life Insurance Awareness Month — and the numbers are pretty eye-opening 👀

Across Gen Z, Millennials, and Gen X, millions of Americans have life insurance… but many more either know they need it, aren’t sure how much they need, or simply assume it’s too expensive.

And here’s the part that really strikes me:

📱 80% of adults under 45 use social media to look for information about financial or insurance products.

That means people are learning about life insurance in the same place they’re learning about everything else — their phones.

But with so much information (and misinformation) floating around online, knowing where to get your information matters just as much as getting it.

The good news? Life insurance doesn’t have to be complicated, and it doesn’t have to break the bank. The right coverage depends on your family, your finances, and what you’re trying to protect.

So this Life Insurance Awareness Month, I’m here to do something simple:

Educate first. No scare tactics. No pressure. Just real answers to help you make informed decisions about protecting the people who matter most 💚

THINGS I’VE BEEN ASKED THIS WEEK… 💬

“Why do I have to cover my home for $350,000 when I only owe $200,000?”

This is a GREAT question—and the answer comes down to one important distinction:

Your insurance is based on what it could cost to rebuild your home, not what you owe the bank. The purpose of insurance is to make you whole again after a loss — to get you back where you were. And for most people, that’s back into your home, not just cleared of a mortgage 😅

🏠 If your home would cost approximately $350,000 to rebuild, your dwelling coverage should match or should be close to that amount— even if your mortgage balance is only $200,000.

Your mortgage balance tells us what you owe.

Your dwelling coverage is there to help cover the cost of rebuilding your home after a covered loss.

And here’s another important piece: the land itself isn’t what you’re insuring. You’re insuring the home and the materials, labor, debris removal, and other costs involved in rebuilding it.

So if you’re looking at your declarations page and thinking, “Why is my coverage limit so much higher than what I’m on the hook for?”—that’s actually exactly what we’d expect to see in many cases.

Insurance isn’t designed to protect the bank’s investment alone. It’s designed to help protect you 💚

THINGS I’VE BEEN ASKED THIS WEEK… 💬

“Do I really need an umbrella if I already have policies on everything?” ☂️

This is a great question—and the honest answer is: I don’t know, it depends. Let’s talk about it.

An umbrella policy isn’t about insuring something you forgot to insure. It’s about providing an additional layer of liability protection above the limits on your existing policies, such as your home and auto insurance.

So when we’re deciding whether an umbrella makes sense, we’re looking at the bigger picture:

🏠 What assets do you have?
💰 What does your overall financial position look like?
🚗 What kind of liability exposure do you have?
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 What could you potentially have to protect in the event of a serious lawsuit?

For some people, their existing liability limits may be enough.

For others, an umbrella can be a very valuable extra layer of protection.

In this particular situation, after looking at the client’s overall financial picture, I felt that $1 million—and potentially even $2 million—of additional liability protection would be a very good idea.

And that’s why I don’t think there’s a one-size-fits-all answer to the question, “Do I need an umbrella?”

It’s really a conversation about what you have to protect.
