Sunday was another one for the list.

My first Dave Matthews Band show was at Deer Creek in 1996. Somehow, 30 years later and 100+ shows later, I'm still doing this.

Most of those shows have been at Deer Creek here in Indiana or Pine K**b during our years in Michigan, with plenty of other stops mixed in along the way.

It's funny how certain things become markers for different chapters of your life. Different cities, different friends, different stages of life — but the music has been one of the constants.

And yes, after 100+ shows, I'm apparently still not done. 😂

One of the things I'm learning as a new board member with the Center Grove Education Foundation is just how much impact a single grant can have.

Over the summer, CGEF awarded a $5,465 grant that helped launch a brand-new Guitar Class at Center Grove High School. Now students have guitars in their hands and are getting the opportunity to learn something they may never have tried otherwise.

I love that.

To me, education is about more than the traditional curriculum. It's also about exposing kids to new experiences, helping them develop life skills, and giving them opportunities to discover interests and talents they may not even know they have.

You never know which opportunity is going to open a new path for a student.

Seeing examples like this reinforces why I wanted to get involved with CGEF in the first place. I'm excited to see—and be a small part of—what else the foundation can help make possible for Center Grove students.

This is one of those pictures I come back to when I need a reminder about priorities.

It was taken about a two years ago at Ray Skillman Park. I was coaching my son's Center Grove Little League team, and I'm pretty sure this was his first game.

At the time, I pictured a lot more days like this ahead of us. Turns out, sports really aren't his thing.

That's been one of the things I've learned about being a dad. Sometimes the things I picture us doing together aren't necessarily going to be the things he loves.

And that's okay. Part of the fun is getting to figure out what those things are with him.

Work, schedules and everything else can make it pretty easy to lose perspective sometimes. Pictures like this help remind me of mine.

Funny how much smaller places can feel when you come back to them years later.

Recently, I got the chance to play pickup basketball with our CGOMB group in the old West Gym at Center Grove High School.

Walking back in through that floor-level tunnel was pretty nostalgic.

When I was in elementary school, I remember sitting in those stands on packed Friday nights, looking at that court and imagining what it would be like to play there someday. In 1996, I got that opportunity when I played my freshman games on that floor.

After spending 18 years in Michigan, moving back home has given me the chance to reconnect with a lot of places and memories from growing up. But I never really thought I'd get the chance to step onto that floor again—much less play on it.

The gym looked almost exactly like I remembered it. Somehow, though, it felt a whole lot smaller.

It's funny how perspective changes over the years. I probably played more basketball in the Vandy, but so many of my memories are tied to the "Old Gym."

Pretty cool to be back home making another one.
