Robert “Bob” F. Mason, Sr., 91, of Ashland, NE, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at Oxbow Living Center in Ashland, NE. Bob was born June 15, 1933 in Omaha, NE to Ralph and Lila Mason. Bob graduated from Omaha Central High School. After graduation he joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany. His platoon was responsible for patrolling the East German border. He left the army as a Sergeant 1st Class. Bob’s father bought a farm north of Ashland, NE. Bob helped with the farming and raising cattle. This is also where he started and raised his family.
Bob married Caroline Dahlster and from that marriage they had five children. After the farm was sold many years later, Bob worked for the National Guard Camp in Ashland. He was an active member of the Ashland Saddle Club, and he was a charter member who started the Ashland Rescue Squad. In 2015, at the age of 82, he was awarded the 2015 NE EMS person of the year. The event was held in Kearney, NE. Bob never gave it a thought that he would win, so he wasn’t at the event to be recognized. In 1975, he joined the fire department, which was his passion. He held the title of chief for 12 years. In one year alone, Bob went on 121 calls. Bob has received numerous awards. The greatest award to him was the satisfaction from serving his country and serving his community.
Bob is survived by sons, Rob Mason and Zane (Connie) Mason; daughter, Angie Mason; special daughter, Sue (Terry) Dickinson; grandchildren, Shawn Mason, Cody (Jennifer) Mason, Justin Mason, Shanon Teahon; great-grandchildren, Paige, Jacob, Ayva and Summer; sister, Lois Anderson; special friend, Dee Barney; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sons, Eric and Billy Joe; sisters, Joan Rose, Donna Van Pelt and Bev Patterson.
Funeral Service, Thursday (5/29/2025) 10:30 a.m. at American Lutheran Church, 1941 Silver St., Ashland, NE.

Visitation, Wednesday (5/28/2025) 5-7 p.m. at Marcy Mortuary, Ashland, NE.
Interment will be held at the Ashland Cemetery.
