Madison DeLoach
Itta Bena (DeLoach Farms) & Greenwood (The Blind, LLC)
Partner in both
Education: I am a 2015 graduate of Pillow Academy. After graduation, I attended Mississippi Delta Community College where I enrolled in the Agricultural Business Management Technology Program with an emphasis on Field Crops Technology. I received an Associate of Applied Science degree in 2017.
Family: I married my wife, Mary Katherine, in 2021, and we moved across the road from our farm headquarters in Itta Bena. At work or at church, from vacations to family game nights, on holidays and weekends, our family spends a lot of time together.
Favorite part of your job: Farming is my primary occupation, and it's hard to choose one particular thing that is my favorite about it. I guess I would say the diversity is my favorite thing about farming; you never know what the day holds when you wake up. Farming differs from every other occupation because it is made up of different seasons, from planting in the spring to irrigating in the summer then harvesting in the fall. Another favorite thing about farming is that I am blessed to be able to work with my dad and be business partners in the farm and other ventures. If I had to pick one job on the farm that I would consider as my "favorite," it would be running the combine. I love running it every day harvesting our crop and being able to see the fruits of all our hard labor.
How did you choose your career path? I would say since I was a toddler I have wanted to do exactly what I am doing for my career. I grew up on our family farm that my granddad and father started. I have loved it from a young age, whether riding or napping on the sprayer, driving on turnrows long before I was licensed, or shooting rabbits off the combine while my granddad harvested. I began farming full-time in 2017 after graduating from Mississippi Delta Community College. Farming has also allowed me to pursue other opportunities and dreams since we aren't overly busy in the winter months. From November to the end of January, I guide duck hunts at Honey Brake Lodge in Jonesville, Louisiana, where I have guided since the winter of 2017. Thanks to our great help on the farm, my dad and I have had the opportunity to venture into other businesses. My parents have a successful independent insurance agency where my dad and I sell crop insurance and my mother sells property and casualty insurance. In January of 2024, we were able to buy the local sporting goods store in Greenwood now called The Blind. It is really great to do the two things I really love, farming and hunting, and earn a living doing it.
