Monica Wheeler has been a licensed long term care (LTC) planning specialist since 2002. She is licensed in NC, SC, GA, TN, VA, KY, LA, MS, PA and TX. With in-depth and up to date knowledge of the products offered by the leading LTC carriers, she works to satisfy clients’ needs with custom designed plans from the industry’s best offerings. Monica is recognized among the nation's top LTC specialists
by the American Association for Long Term Care Insurance. She is approved by the states of NC and SC to teach continuing education classes to other licensed agents, CPAs, and financial planners and also teaches a class on “Understanding Long Term Care Insurance” for Clemson and Furman universities’ Osher Life Long Learning Institutes (Olli Programs.) Statistics show that 70% of people will eventually require care and that the cost of a semi-private room for 1 year in a nursing home in SC is approximately $72,000 with this cost going up on average of 3% per year. Monica’s primary purpose is to help people understand and consider their options for LTC planning so they can avoid the financial and emotional hardship that comes with being unprepared. Belief in LTC planning and dedication to helping others protect themselves and their family is rooted in personal experience. After taking care of her spouse at home for over 3 years, until he passed in 1988, Monica’s grandmother lived another 20 years and then went through the full gamut of care, including home care, hospitalization, and eventually nursing home care which resulted in “spending down” all of her assets. She died at 92, alone, in a “much below average,” dismal nursing facility after being forced to move from a very nice nursing home that was close to the family, because she could no longer afford to pay. Monica’s goal is to assist people in being prepared for the aging process to help ensure that they don’t have to go through the emotional and financial stress as well as loss of control and dignity that her grandmother experienced.
