I used to be the person people came to when it was already too late.

Right out of college, I started managing a law firm. At church or anywhere else, once people knew what I did, the questions came: probate, estate planning. Almost every time, there was no plan in place. I was always the one sharing bad news.

I had information that could have helped those families, and I felt a duty to share it. So I started teaching workshops with the attorney I worked for, mostly in faith communities, because that is where the community gathers. Then I moved to the front end, helping people build their wealth, enhance it, and preserve it.

Twenty five years later, that is still the work. Retirement planning is part of the journey. The estate is the destination.

"I consider my life's work to be living intentionally, walking in my purpose and using my experiences to inspire, empower and uplift my family and the community."

My father had to retire unexpectedly, and our family wasn't prepared for what that would look like. I'm the ninth of 13 children in a blended family, and by the time Dad retired, it was time for me to go to college. The financial resources were no longer available.

I did graduate, and that's why I'm able to do what I do today. But that experience stayed with me.

What I learned is this: when people have the right information and truly understand their plans, they can avoid so many hardships. That's why I do what I do.

Last night was a celebration to remember. Last month felt like a full circle moment. Twenty Five Years in this work, and I got to celebrate it surrounded by the people who made it possible, clients, family, friends, mentors, and community leaders who showed up to celebrate 25 Years of Yes and the launch of my book, The Season of Yes.

I keep coming back to this. None of it was built by me alone. It was built by every relationship, every conversation, every person who said yes to trusting me with something as personal as their future.
