Our company offers something called a Freedom of Choice Certificate. This comes with every policy that is written.

What this allows your family to do:

When you die and your family has to go into the funeral home to pick everything out for your funeral, the funeral home director will usually ask if he/she had any life insurance. Most people will say yes and tell the funeral home director the amount of the policy, that is a huge mistake because now the funeral home director knows how much money he has to work with and will try his hardest to squeeze out every dime he can (People think this is harsh but you have to understand that funeral homes are a business, and they want to make a profit). The Freedom of Choice certificate acts as a blank check and gives your family the ability to grieve without being taken advantage of.

How it works: You take the Freedom of Choice certificate with you and you agree up on a price of the funeral without ever mentioning life insurance. Once you and the funeral home director agree up on the price you pull out the freedoms of choice, put the price down on the back of the certificate, sign it, and have the funeral home director sign it and then leave it with the funeral home. On the front of the certificate there is a number that the funeral home will call to talk directly with our claims department so your family doesn’t have to deal with the claiming process. Anything left over will be delivered to your family in the mail in 24-48 hours.
