Is there any chance that you might qualify for the new, expanded Public Service Loan Forgiveness? It's DIFFERENT than the $10K debt relief, AND it has a deadline rapidly approaching on October 31st.
If you have student loans that are over $10K AND you worked for (or expect to work for) a governmental or not-for-profit industry, check to see if your employer qualifies!

08/24/2022

Have student loans and wonder if they're forgiven? We're going to go through and help each person we serve individually on this. Feel free to drop us an email, though, to make sure we don't miss anything! (Feel free to ask questions for relatives, too!)

This is a fantastic time to buy I Bonds. These days you have to do it online, through https://www.treasurydirect.gov/. They're giving a rate over 9% right now! The fine print: you have to keep them there for at least a year, and you lose 3 month's interest as a penalty if you withdraw them before five years, and you may only do up to $10,000 per person (or trust) per year... but it's a really great way to *benefit* from inflation right now if you've got money in savings to shift over to this.

Send an email to [email protected] if you'd like a step-by-step instruction sheet on how, exactly, to buy I Bonds online.

Time Critical! If you have anyone you're paying for college for, either now or in the future AND you're a MA resident, if you put $2,000 into the MA UFund plan (see link below) you can get a $100 tax break in MA. Funds have to be contributed by 12-31. I downloaded and used the Fidelity app to make my deposit with a picture of my check. ;-)

Job Title Operations Assistant at a Financial Advising Firm

Pay Starting at $13/hour, moves up to $15/hour after training.

Location Downtown Greenfield, MA - in person - in a physical but safe location

Hours Part-time, roughly 9:30 to 3 pm at least three days a week. There's a possibility of working more hours some weeks (and less on others.)

Duties
Receptionist: greet people at the door, bring tea and coffee (at most 2 or 3 a day.)
Filing: both pulling files and storing files both in filing cabinets and into online storage drives
Mailing: preparing packets for the mail, logging outgoing and incoming mail both in a physical log and in CRM notes
Scanning: uploading scanned versions of physical pages to virtual storage
Facilities: light maintenance (sweep up dog hair, wipe down a table, water plants between cleaning staff)
Computer Software: Use Slack for staff communication. Use CRM to update projects as things happen, use Google Calendar and Google Mail.
Timekeeper: watch for when meetings need to end, keep boss on schedule with time reminders
On-site Assistant for various operations: help professional staff with copying, scanning, filing, addressing envelopes, mailing things.

What's great about this job: Concrete tasks - you'll make the workplace better because you were here.
You can leave work at work when you leave to go home.
Safe, comfortable work environment. Possible to bring a child in a pinch.
You'll learn helpful things about money overhearing things on the job!
Resume-builder if you're re-careering from, say, food service into an office job.
Room for growth (and raises!) if you have additional skills in marketing, video editing, tax prep, human resources, writing skills.

Success Criteria: Trustworthy - we will need references from people who will vouch for your discretion and honesty.
Reliable - we want you to be able to show up before clients do
Able to problem-solve on technical mysteries - how to unjam a printer or reload ink
Flexible about working surge times - some weeks may be longer than others
Comfortable with the office dog (a friendly Labrador Retriever.)
Be okay with multi-tasking: you may have shredding to do but be called to bring in a file and/or greet the door, possibly all at the same time.
Introverted enough that you're okay being mostly alone all day - others are usually there, but it's not usually a chatty job. But also extroverted enough to be happy greeting strangers and/or making phone calls.
Confident - able to greet people, or make a scheduling call, or tell the boss that you're already working on something else.

How to apply: Email your contact info to [email protected] or text (don't call!) to 413-829-4832. Resumes are welcome but not necessary.

Who should apply: We're particularly hoping to increase the cultural competency of our small firm - people from minority backgrounds and people learning English are encouraged to apply.
