Franklin First Federal Credit Union

Franklin First Federal Credit Union Imagine a better way of banking! Franklin First - Serving Franklin County, MA since 1958 Credit unions are member owned. Here, your voice is always heard.

If you have an account with Franklin First, you are a part owner in the business. We are insured by the National Credit Union Administration and are democratically controlled by our members. This means that members have more say in how Franklin First is run, and hold decision-making power. Members elect a Board of Directors – rather than hiring one – who are chosen to fully represent the members i

n making decisions and upholding policies. It is your interests that come first, not profits. Due to the fact that Franklin First has one select location, members receive superior customer service from our friendly staff. As a member, you are a cooperative owner, not just another account number. Unlike banks, credit unions are not-for-profit. Therefore, interest rates tend to be significantly better and fees fewer and smaller. Your financial well-being comes first at Franklin First and you can rest assured that when you join us your money stays within the local communities.

One of our favorite pastimes is hosting FREE community events like our Senior Lunch & Learn program.

The event brings together professionals in both law enforcement, the justice system, and banking to speak on the very important topic of financial scams targeting the seniors in our community, how to spot red flags, and what to do if you suspect you may be a victim.

We would love to partner with more groups to bring this valuable program to more community members .

If you are interested in learning more about how you can host your own Senior Lunch & Learn with Franklin First visit our website at franklinfirst.org/education

According to the Mass. Department of Higher Education the average cost for a year of college in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts ranges anywhere from $7,447 to $15,284 , and this does not include the cost of books or housing.

This is an intimidating number , but there are options out there to help make it more affordable, like scholarships! Scholarships are funds given to a student that do not need to be repaid !

Franklin First has a scholarship tool available to help make your search simple, but keep in mind many scholarships have hard deadlines and they are approaching - so don't delay!

🚨 Stay Safe This Tax Season! 🚨

At FFFCU, your financial security is our top priority. As tax season approaches, we want to remind you to stay vigilant against IRS Tax Refund Scams. Scammers often exploit this time of year, and we're here to help you stay informed and protected.

Here are some key tips to safeguard yourself:
πŸ”’ Be Skeptical of Unsolicited Contacts: The IRS will never contact you by email, phone, or social media about your tax refund.

πŸ“ž Verify Callers: If someone claims to be from the IRS, ask for their name, badge number, and a callback number. Verify their identity using the official IRS phone number.

πŸ’³ Protect Your Personal Information: Never share sensitive details like your Social Security number or banking information with unsolicited callers or emails.

🌐 Use Secure Channels: Only communicate with the IRS through official means, such as their website or certified mail.

πŸ“š Educate Yourself: Be aware of common scam tactics and stay informed about how to spot red flags.

πŸ‘€ Monitor Your Accounts: Regularly check your bank accounts and credit reports for any unauthorized activity.

🚨 Report Suspicious Activity: Report scams to the IRS at their official website and the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

πŸ’‘ Accidentally Clicked or Shared Information? Visit IdentityTheft.gov for a free, customized recovery plan.

Thank you for choosing FFFCU! Together, we can create a secure banking environment for everyone. πŸ’™

Perpetrators of scams and financial exploitation can use a holiday as a co-conspirator. As Valentine's Day approaches we want to bring a higher awareness to romance scams. These scams can occur any time of the year, but around Valentine's Day when people may be feeling a bit lonely or decide to try out dating apps for the first time, it becomes easier for the bad actors to find victims. Before you say 'that could never happen to me', take some time to watch this CBS Documentary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-75nDH-bbc . It not a quick watch and it is very worst case scenario, but it sheds a lot of light on how these romance scams work and sharing and talking about it with family and friends can help someone avoid a situation like this or give someone an opportunity to ask for help if they have already found themself in a scam.

Romance scammers drain billions of dollars from people seeking love, and their tactics have evolved in sinister ways in the online age. CBS News goes inside ...
