Proud to be a real supporter of the telecom industry and NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association! Telcom Insurance Group was the only insurance organization in the exhibit hall, that provided financial support through sponsorship, and was there in person attending events. That is true partnership support!

The Fear of 13

Just like walking under a ladder, crossing paths with a black cat or breaking a mirror, many people hold fast to the belief that Friday the 13th brings bad luck. Though it’s uncertain exactly when this particular tradition began, negative superstitions have swirled around the number 13 for centuries.

While Western cultures have historically associated the number 12 with completeness (there are 12 days of Christmas, 12 months and zodiac signs, 12 labors of Hercules, 12 gods of Olympus and 12 tribes of Israel, just to name a few examples), its successor 13 has a long history as a sign of bad luck.

We wish you GOOD luck today!!

Pavement Can Burn a Dogs Feet

Summer is almost here and it's getting much hotter. You wouldn't walk barefoot on asphalt (like the road) or even on your sidewalk without shoes because it's so hot.

Protect your pets too. Walk the dogs on grassy areas or invest in dog booties (if your dog will wear them) or paw wax.

Tip to Reduce Screen Time for Kids

Most of us aren't getting enough exercise. The reality is that we all, kids included, need to reduce our screen time and get some daily physical activity into our schedule.

Actively limit your kids (and your) screen time for TV, video games, and social media. Examples:
1. 500 steps walking the dog or doing chores gets you half an hour of screen time
2. No phones/tablets at the dinner table. Everyone shares what happened during their day/something new they discovered.

Have an Evacuation Plan

Make sure you have a written hurricane evacuation plan. If you live in a storm surge hurricane evacuation zone or if you’re in a home that would be unsafe during a hurricane, figure out where you’d go and how you’d get there if told to evacuate. You do not need to travel far. Find a friend or relative who doesn’t live in an evacuation zone or unsafe home and see if you can use their home as your evacuation destination. Remember to account for your pets, as most local shelters do not permit them.

Hurricane Prep Week Tip

If you plan to ride out a hurricane in your home, make sure it is in good repair and up to local hurricane building code specifications. Have the proper plywood, steel or aluminum panels to board up the windows and doors. Remember, the garage door is the most vulnerable part of the home, so it must be able to withstand high winds.

Hurricane Preparedness Week Tip

Just having enough supplies to make it through a hurricane isn’t enough. You need plenty to make it through what could be a LONG recovery period too. Water and electricity could be out for a week or more. Have enough non-perishable food, water and medicine to last each person in your family for a MINIMUM of three days. Also make sure you have extra cash, a battery-powered radio, flashlights, and a portable crank or solar powered USB charger to charge your cell phone. ready.gov/kit

Happy Mother's Day

"Motherhood is a choice you make everyday, to put someone else’s happiness and well-being ahead of your own, to teach the hard lessons, to do the right thing even when you’re not sure what the right thing is… and to forgive yourself, over and over again, for doing everything wrong." —Donna Ball

Get up and Move

It's sometimes more difficult to remember when you're working from home than when you're in the office.

Take breaks often to move and stretch
Take frequent breaks to change up your posture and stretch throughout the workday. This is key to working comfortably for long periods of time.

Get up and move--even just for a couple of minutes. If you have a standing desk, you still need to move around.

Incorporate exercise throughout your workday by taking a few 10-minute walks. Remember that exercise is cumulative, so three 10-minute walks are just as beneficial as one 30-minute walk.
