GREEN RIVER, WY — The Green River Police Department is reminding residents to remain cautious and aware when individuals arrive at their homes claiming to represent a company or service provider, particularly when the visit was not previously scheduled.
On October 8, 2026, the Green River Police Department was contacted by a resident who reported that a man had come to his home claiming to work for Vivint. The man was wearing a black shirt with an orange house logo and told the resident he was there to upgrade the resident’s system.
The resident became suspicious because he had not been notified by Vivint that a technician or representative would be coming to his home. When the resident asked the individual why he had not received prior notification, the individual reportedly would not provide his name or other identifying information. The resident then asked him to leave.
The resident later contacted Vivint and was informed that the company had not sent anyone to his residence for an upgrade.
The Green River Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding this report and is encouraging residents to take precautions when approached by unexpected service providers, contractors, salespeople, or other individuals requesting access to their homes.
𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨:
• Do not feel pressured to open your door or allow someone inside your home.
• Ask for the individual's name, company name, and reason for the visit.
• If you were not expecting the visit, contact the company directly using a phone number from your bill, official website, or other trusted source to verify the individual's identity and appointment.
• Do not rely solely on a company logo, uniform, vehicle, or identification card as proof that someone is legitimate.
• If the individual refuses to provide identifying information or becomes aggressive, persistent, or evasive, ask them to leave and contact law enforcement if necessary.
• If possible, document the individual's description, vehicle information, company name, and direction of travel without putting yourself in danger.
Residents should remember that you are not obligated to let an unexpected visitor into your home simply because they claim to be there for a service appointment.
The Green River Police Department encourages community members to trust their instincts. If something does not seem right, take the time to verify the information before allowing someone access to your home.
If you encounter a suspicious individual or believe someone is attempting to gain access to your home under false pretenses, contact the Green River Police Department at (307) 875-1400. For emergencies or an immediate threat, call 911.
