Our Q1 2026 Investment Commentary is out.

"Year Zero: How AI Is Reshaping Our Investment Process"

The past few months have felt like a reset for how we research, monitor, and pressure-test ideas. AI hasn't replaced our process, it has extended its surface area: more companies tracked, more inputs monitored, more signals revisited, without diluting the quality of our attention.

Inside this quarter's commentary:

• How we have rebuilt our research stack around Claude Code, Gemini, and Codex, and why architecture and token efficiency matter
• Our daily Cross-Project Memo and the agentic project manager that sits behind it
• Why we believe AWS is at a critical inflection point, and how Amazon is positioned to win as workflows are built by AI but executed largely through non-AI processes
• A look inside our SaaS Risk Tracker, a proprietary panel that scores software companies for AI displacement risk and free cash flow quality (and has already informed two new purchases)

The market trades by the quarter. We invest by the half-decade.

June is shaping up as a catalyst-dense month. CPI, a major IPO, a first FOMC under new leadership, quadruple witching options expiry. The short-term crowd is already repositioning.

For a 3 to 5 year owner, almost none of that should matter.

US stocks turn over more than 250% per year. The average market transaction is priced off the next quarterly print, not the value of the underlying business over the next half-decade. That duration mismatch is one of the most reliable sources of inefficiency in equity markets and it is the foundation of how we invest.

Three implications of holding longer:
• Compounding works in the after-tax math, not just the pre-tax return
• Transaction costs and friction collapse toward zero
• You stop being on the wrong side of every short-term overreaction

We are deep fundamental investors. The edge comes from owning the right businesses long enough for the value to show up.

The S&P 500 just printed another all-time high. Most investors take the win and move on.

That is when discipline matters most.

Two moves worth taking this week:

Rebalance with intent. The winners are now bigger weights than your plan called for. Trimming back to target is not market-timing, it is risk control.

Harvest losses where they still exist. Even at index highs, individual positions diverge. Realized losses have a long tax-shelf life.

You cannot control the market. You can control your exposure, your basis, and your tax bill.

Most retirement advice obsesses over what you own.

Just as important, and almost never discussed, is where you own it.

The same portfolio split across taxable, tax-deferred (IRA, 401k), and tax-free (Roth, HSA) buckets can produce meaningfully different after-tax outcomes.

A simple framework gets most people 80% of the way:
• Highest-growth, longest-hold equities → Roth
• Bonds, REITs, high-turnover strategies → Tax-deferred
• Tax-efficient equity → Taxable

Most investors do the opposite, bonds in the Roth, high-growth stocks in the IRA where every dollar comes out as ordinary income.

If you haven't pressure-tested your account location in the last few years, it's worth a conversation.

The AI trade is shifting.

For the past three years, the market has been focused on GPUs, memory, fiber, and power. That made sense. The first wave of AI investment was about building the infrastructure required to support the technology.

That trade created significant winners. But the easy money in the infrastructure layer is likely behind us.

Our view from our Q4 2025 commentary: the next leg of value is more likely to accrue at the application layer.

That is how major technology cycles tend to evolve. Infrastructure gets built first. Then the biggest economic impact shows up in the products, platforms, and business models built on top of it.

LLMs were the first “killer app” of this cycle. They will not be the last.

The opportunity is not in chasing what already worked. It is in positioning for what comes next.

Throwback to 2017.

Elliot, Ryan, and Jason on-site with The Howard Hughes Corporation, a portfolio holding at the time.

Hard hats, safety vests, and a firsthand look at the assets we owned on behalf of our clients.

We have always believed that stocks are businesses, and businesses operate in the real world. Sometimes the best way to understand an investment is to get out from behind the screen and see it firsthand.

Site visits. Management meetings. Real-world diligence. Pressure-testing the thesis in person.

Same philosophy then as today:

Hands-on. Research-driven. Long-term.

In case you missed our Q4 2025 Investment Commentary.

The thesis in one line, borrowed from Garry Kasparov:
"Weak human + machine + superior process beats stronger humans and machines with inferior processes."

Inside, we get into:
• How we're using LLMs to challenge our own assumptions (not just affirm them)
• Why the AI infrastructure trade is rotating to the application layer
• Two new positions: Lattice Semiconductor ($LSCC). an AI winner hiding inside a cyclical downturn, and Celsius Holdings ($CELH), deliberately far from the AI narrative
• Why we think the "AI kills software" panic is overdone

📈 Navigating market uncertainty: how we separate signal from noise to find opportunity.

In our latest commentary, we discuss why uncertainty can be your edge and how it fueled our most active investment period in years. Here's what we explore:

- The resilience of AI infrastructure and the opportunities for TSMC across cycles.
- Understanding Life Sciences better and how Bruker offers value at a key inflection point.
- How Lululemon’s strong brand and global reach create lasting growth, even amid retail challenges.

Our "constants" are themes and companies that endure, regardless of market chaos. 📉
