The IRS has started sending information letters to the individuals that received the Child Tax Credit Payments throughout the past several months.

WATCH FOR IT - the envelope is plain, white and looks like junk mail. Make sure you open ALL your mail, every day.

You will need this letter when doing your tax return.

U.S. banks are observing the Christmas holiday on Friday, December 24th. That means payroll for this week needs to be processed a day earlier so employees receive funds on Thursday.

Can you afford to lose $8500?

Life has changed dramatically in the past three months for most people. While we have been handling those changes fraudsters have taken the opportunity to exploit our distraction.

We recently heard of an account that was hacked. The perpetrator took off with $8500 in cash using many transactions over several weeks.

When was the last time you checked your bank accounts? How about your Shopify, Etsy, Amazon Seller and other financial systems? What about your personal accounts like Zelle and Venmo?

Are you sure your accounts are secure, that someone hasn't obtained access, that someone hasn't taken control.

Login, check your accounts weekly. Stopping fraud starts with you watching all your financial accounts.

Tax season is in full swing as the world around us becomes uncertain and circumstances are constantly changing.

There is a small bit of relief for taxpayers today. The due date to pay your federal income tax has been extended to July 15th. The normal due date to pay is April 15th. That means you get an additional 90 days to pay the tax due to the IRS for your personal income tax.

Please note that your tax return is still due on April 15th. That date has not been extended automatically. You must request an extension of time to file using IRS Form 4868.

This is only for your Federal Income Tax.

Did you know that the mileage rates for 2020 included a some decreases? For business miles, you get half a penny less this year than last year. Mileage rates for medical and moving decreased by 3 cents per mile.

The holidays are here. That means lots of shopping in person and online. We always caution online shoppers to use their credit cards. NEVER use your debit card for any checking or savings account.

The rules for disputing a charge and getting your money back are vastly different.

Most banks make it almost impossible to get your money back for fraudulent use of debit cards. It is also easier for recurring fraudulent debit charges to show up weeks and months later.

USE your credit card. Credit card companies have more safe guards in place for fraudulent charges and are more friendly toward the consumer. Most credit card companies can also block charges from recurring.

Last call for 2018 C-Corp and Personal Income Tax Returns. Both are due the the IRS and state Dept of Revenue a week from today.

Don't wait until the very last second to file. Technology issues including server overloads may keep you from filing on time.

Extensions are only for additional time to file your return. Taxes were still due April 15th. You may find you have penalties and interest to pay if you owe taxes.
