Don’t get fooled!
🚨 Your tax preparer has access to your financial and personal info. Don't hand over that sensitive data without doing some research first.
Start by checking their credentials.
→ All tax preparers should have an IRS-issued PTIN (ID number) that they will include on your return. However, each preparer will have different skills and expertise. You can use the IRS database (linked in the comments) to look up someone's qualifications or find a preparer.
🚩 Red flags to look out for: Avoid tax preparers who...
✕ Base their fee on a percentage of your refund
✕ Won't sign their name on your return
✕ Can't answer questions or explain your return
Remember, you're responsible for your return, even if someone else prepared it. Make sure to review your return and ask questions before signing it.
