🚨 A divorce decree does not remove your name from the mortgage.

Even if your former spouse is awarded the home and ordered to make the payments, the mortgage company may still hold you financially responsible.

If a payment is late or missed, your credit could be affected too. Removing your name from the deed does not remove your name from the mortgage—you must address the loan itself.
