September is Preparedness Month here in Michigan!

As Michiganders, we know our weather can be unpredictable. From severe storms and flooding to winter weather just around the corner, taking a little time now to prepare can make a big difference when the unexpected happens.

The Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is encouraging residents to review their insurance policies and make sure they have the coverage they need — including taking a closer look at homeowners, renters, auto, and health insurance.

One important reminder: most standard insurance policies do not cover flood damage or sewer backup, so it’s worth knowing what your policy does — and doesn’t — cover before you need it.

At The Mulcahy Agency, we believe being prepared is something we can all work toward together. We’re proud to be a local Michigan agency, and Mitch was born and raised right here in Michigan. Supporting our neighbors and helping our community be prepared is something that matters to us.

So this September, let’s team up, look out for one another, and take a few steps toward being prepared for whatever Michigan weather brings our way.

A little preparation today can mean a lot less stress tomorrow.

Take a few minutes to review your coverage, secure your important documents, and make sure your family has a plan.

Quick question: When was the last time you looked at your life insurance?

If your answer was “Ummm… I’m not sure” — you’re definitely not alone.

September is Life Insurance Awareness Month, which makes it a great time to take a second look at your coverage.

Life insurance isn’t always the easiest thing to talk about—but it’s one of those conversations that can make a big difference for the people you love.

Life changes quickly. New home. New job. Marriage. Kids. More responsibilities. A policy that made sense a few years ago may not be the right fit for your life today. And here’s something many people don’t realize: waiting can sometimes mean paying more later, especially as you get older or if your health changes.

You don’t have to have all the answers—that’s what a conversation with your insurance agent is for.

This September, take a few minutes to review your life insurance. It could be one of the most important conversations you have this year.

Happy Back to School to all the kiddos, big and little! 🎒✏️📚

We have one VERY excited 3rd grader and an equally excited Kindergartener! We’re wishing them—and all the other students heading back—a year full of fun, friends, new adventures, and lots of learning!

There’s just something special about the start of a new school year. Here’s to a great one!

What grades did you send your kiddos off to this year?

It’s a BIG week here at the Mulcahy household—and I’m sure we aren’t the only family feeling all the back-to-school excitement!

When our daughter started Kindergarten, we had an idea to build her a desk that she could use throughout her school years. Something useful, something creative, and something we could say we made that.
Now it’s our son’s turn for Kindergarten, so we just finished up his desk!

Are these desks perfect? Absolutely not. You can definitely see the flaws and all the little imperfections. But you know what? That’s part of what makes them special. We’re proud of the things we created, just like we are proud of our kids.

One thing we hope to teach them is that it’s okay to be imperfect. What matters is that you try your best, take pride in what you create, and don’t be afraid to make something with your own two hands.

So, as we head into another school year, we want to know: Does your family have a back-to-school tradition?

Maybe it’s a special breakfast, back-to-school pictures, a fun day shopping for supplies, or even picking out a little “sweet swag” to start the year.

Share your family tradition with us!

What’s one positive thing that can come from an insurance review? Actually… there are a few.

- You might save money.
- You can better understand what your policy is actually protecting.
- You may even discover you can get better or more coverage for less than you’re paying now.

Does that happen every time? No. And honestly, that’s not even the most important part.

The biggest win is having an open conversation about what your current insurance plan protects, what it doesn’t, and what you want it to protect.

Because life changes. Your needs change. Your insurance should make sense for where you are now.

So… what’s stopping you from having the conversation?

Let’s take a look. No pressure. No scary insurance talk. Just a conversation about your coverage.

QUICK QUIZ!

If these were stolen from your car, would your auto insurance cover them?

💻 Laptop
🎒 Diaper bag
🎣 Expensive fishing or sports gear
👜 Purse
💳 Personal belongings

Here’s the part that surprises a lot of people: Personal belongings stolen from your vehicle are generally covered under your homeowners or renters insurance, rather than your auto policy — subject to the terms, limits, and deductible of your policy.

Your auto insurance is generally focused on protecting the vehicle itself, while your homeowners or renters policy can provide coverage for your personal belongings, including certain losses that happen away from home.

Insurance can be confusing, but knowing what you have (and what you don’t have) covered is a great place to start.

Did you know this? Comment YES or NO

And if your answer was “Wait… what?!” — let’s take a look at your coverage together.

Have you ever bought a new golf club or tried a different golf ball hoping it would improve your game?

Or started a new skincare routine because you wanted better results?

Maybe you’ve upgraded your phone, changed your workout routine, or found a new way to budget your money.

We’re constantly evaluating and improving different areas of our lives… so why is insurance often the one thing we set up once and never look at again?

For some reason, insurance has a reputation for being boring, confusing, or even something people dread talking about. But it doesn’t have to be.

The truth is, life changes. Families grow. Jobs change. Homes, cars, businesses, and goals evolve. Your insurance should evolve too.

Those conversations may feel a little uncomfortable, but they’re often the most important ones to have. They help you stop simply “going with the flow” and start making intentional decisions that protect the people and things that matter most.
We promise—we’re not here to make insurance scary or overwhelming. We’re here to make it make sense.

Let’s break the stigma together. If it’s been a while since you’ve reviewed your coverage, let’s have a conversation. You might be surprised how simple—and worthwhile—it can be.

What have you updated recently to improve your life? Maybe it’s time to add your insurance to the list.

What a great day at the Byron Center Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing!

A huge thank you to the Byron Center Chamber of Commerce and Railside Golf Club for hosting such an incredible event.

Between the beautiful weather, the opportunity to connect with so many members of our community, and the overall experience, we couldn’t have asked for a better day.

This was The Mulcahy Agency’s first time sponsoring a hole, and it was a blast! Mitch played in the morning flight before joining his wife, Katie, and dad, Gray, at our table to meet everyone throughout the day.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat, entered our raffle, or grabbed a Lifesaver. We truly appreciate your support and the opportunity to connect with so many wonderful people.

We’re already looking forward to next year! ⛳️

Life insurance for your kids... wait, that’s a thing?

It sure is! And it’s one of those topics most parents don’t think about until someone brings it up.

Here’s why many families choose to start the conversation:
▪️It can help protect your child’s future insurability if they develop a health condition later in life.
▪️Permanent policies may build cash value over time that can become a financial resource in the future.
▪️It gives your child a head start with protection that can continue into adulthood, depending on the policy.

As parents, we spend so much time planning for our kids’ future—from college savings to first cars and everything in between. Life insurance is simply another way to think ahead and help protect what matters most.

Every family’s situation is different, so the best place to start is with a conversation.
Have questions? Wondering if it’s something that makes sense for your family?

Let’s chat! We’d be happy to walk through your options and answer any questions—no pressure, just good information.

Protect the people you love most.

A change of scenery, a roadtrip, and some quality family time—it was just what we needed.

We had a great road trip to Kentucky, spending time with my wife’s family in her home state. We’re grateful for the chance to slow down, make some memories, and recharge together.

Now it’s time to get back to it, and I’m excited to be back serving our clients and community!

☀️ Summer has a way of reminding us to hit pause every once in a while. Whether it’s a road trip, time at the lake, backyard BBQs, or simply relaxing on the porch, those moments matter.

What’s your favorite way to slow down and enjoy the summer?
