Team Financial was started in 2001 by Tim Maczka and Joe Smaby, a couple of golf buddies and Old Kent Bank colleagues. But golf and a common workplace were not the only things they had in common; both Tim and Joe graduated from Central Michigan University, both were born and raised in Northern Michigan, and both were married on October 3rd (Tim and Nan in 1975, Joe and Laurie in 1992). • had an entrepreneurial spirit;

• viewed themselves as consultative salesmen;
• felt strongly that faith and family were the highest priority in their lives. These commonalities helped pave the way to the formation and guiding principles of Team Financial Group, a full-service equipment finance organization with over $275,000,000 in equipment loans and leases since 2001. Team partners with equipment vendors to offer a convenient financing mechanism for their clients. Team services all loan originations, which has helped grow the amount of “repeat” business to 50% of annual volume. As an independent lender, Team is able to use common sense when making credit decisions, as well as flexibility, and a much faster response time when compared to banks or other lending institutions. Team views itself as much more than a lender; striving to be a partner to their vendors and clients.
