TL;DR:
Trinity and I launched a new branch of VanDusen Bookkeeping focused on medical billing for mental health counselors—a group that faces some of the highest insurance claim rejection rates. Our unique model lets counselors handle easy claims themselves and only pay us when we recover rejected ones—meaning they keep 100% of the first-pass payments.
For our first 5–10 clients, we’re offering intro rates similar to traditional billers, even though we only charge for the hard claims.
Plus, we’re donating $25 per new signup through Nov. 14, split between Jamaica hurricane relief and gifts for the children we sponsor through Compassion International.

Trinity and I have started a branch off of VanDusen Bookkeeping for medical billing specifically for mental health counselors. Mental health counselors are among the highest rates of insurance claims rejections and if they are in a small or individual practice are often left to do it on their own, or pay a biller up to 10% of every claim to not DIY it. So, we are here to help. We want to take our combined 40 years of experience of dealing with insurance from all sides (provider, biller, and inside the insurance company) to help mental health counselors get paid for the work they are already doing.
We are different because we let you do the easy work of submitting the claim to the insurance and only if it rejects, do we take over and do the hard work. On average, 70% of mental health claims go through the first time and you get to keep 100% of that money (a traditional medical biller would be paid up to 10% of this, about $7-15+ even though it only takes a few minutes at most). But, for that 30% of claims that don't go through the first time, we reach out to the insurance, contact PCP's, and do whatever we can to get claims paid. Only if we get those harder claims paid, do we get paid! And, for our first 5 to 10 counselors that sign up for our services, we are making our rate similar to traditional medical billers!
Last thing to note, we are very committed to giving back to noble causes. We have two children that we sponsor through Compassion International and we are also very concerned for the devastation that just happened in Jamaica that is going to take months, if not years to recover from. So, we are going to donate $25 per counselor that signs up for our services through 11/14 and split it 50/50 with United Way Disaster Relief for Jamaica's Hurricane recovery and holiday and birthday gifts for our Compassion Kids.
