OH, DEER! NOW WHAT?
Let’s be real. We live in Colorado, and sometimes the wildlife doesn’t look both ways. So, what should you do if you hit an animal on the road?
🚗 1. GET TO A SAFE LOCATION. Pull over when it’s safe, turn on your hazards, and check for injuries.
📱 2. REPORT THE ACCIDENT. In Colorado, wildlife collisions should be reported to the State Patrol. Call *CSP, or 911 for an emergency. Let authorities deal with the animal.
📸 3. DOCUMENT THE DAMAGE. If it’s safe, take photos of your vehicle, the scene, and any visible damage.
📲 4. CONTACT YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY. Damage from hitting an animal is generally covered under comprehensive auto insurance, not collision. Your deductible and policy terms still apply.
And here’s something worth knowing BEFORE it happens: liability-only insurance typically won’t cover damage to your own vehicle from hitting wildlife. That’s why we’re here! Rocky can help make sure you’re prepared for whatever crosses your path. 🦌
