Tomorrow is the Fed Rate Decision!

🧠 Bottom Line: What You Should Expect
✔ The Fed rate cut = already priced in → no major impact
✔ Dot plot & Powell = biggest factors
✔ Expect rate swings tomorrow around 2pm–3pm
✔ If the Fed shows confidence in more cuts → mortgage rates improve
✔ If the Fed signals caution or fewer cuts → rates worsen

📰 Today’s U.S. Economic Snapshot

Inflation ticked up in August: Consumer prices rose slightly ( as forecasted) 2.9% year-over-year with core inflation (excluding food & energy) holding near 3.1%.

The labor market is losing steam: Only 22,000 jobs were added in August, and weekly unemployment claims jumped to 263,000 the highest in nearly four years.

Data revisions reveal weaker job growth than previously thought: Between April 2024 and March 2025, **911,000 fewer jobs** were created compared to earlier estimates.

The markets seem cautiously optimistic: Despite concerns about inflation and labor, stocks hit fresh highs as investors await signals from the Fed. Many expect interest rate cut next week.

Fed Cuts Rates by 0.50% Today! But Why Did My Mortgage Rate Slightly Go Up?

If you've been following me over the past few weeks, I’ve explained the lack of correlation between Mortgage Rates and the Fed Funds Rate. Here's a quick reminder of why today's rate cut by the Fed doesn't necessarily mean lower mortgage rates.

In fact, the possibility of this cut had already been anticipated and priced into mortgage rates since July, which is why we saw rates decline earlier. Now, mortgage rates are responding more to broader economic factors, not just Fed actions.

So, why not wait? I shared an article on September 6th that explained why waiting for rates to drop further might not be the best idea. If you missed it, I’ll share it again to help shed more light on why acting sooner rather than later can be a smart move.

Mortgage rates will continue to fluctuate based on economic conditions, not just what the Fed does. If you'd like to dive deeper or have questions, I’m happy to sit down and discuss further!

This week's labor market data and Fed speeches solidified the case for the Fed to cut rates by at least 0.25% when it meets in 2 weeks.  With more and more buzz surrounding that rate cut, it's on...
