Two months left in 2026, and there's still plenty of time to finish the year strong. Here's where I'd focus:

• Follow up on unpaid invoices before the holiday rush

I know, I know… it feels a little early to start talking about year-end. But the last few months of the year always seem to fly by!

Now is a great time to take a look at where things stand and make sure you’re setting yourself (and your business!) up for a smooth year-end.

A few things to have on your radar:

✅ Review your revenue and profit for the year
💰 Take a look at your cash flow
📩 Follow up on outstanding invoices
📚 Get your bookkeeping caught up and reconciled
🧾 Start preparing for 1099 season
📊 Review your budget and see how actuals are tracking
🔮 Start thinking about your 2027 budget and projections
📅 Connect with your tax professional about any year-end planning or upcoming deadlines

You definitely don’t have to tackle everything at once! But taking a little time now to get organized will make December, January and tax season a whole lot less stressful.

Catch-up bookkeeping and clean-up bookkeeping may sound like the same thing, but they actually solve two different problems. 📚

You may need a catch-up if your books are simply behind. Maybe it’s been a few months (or longer!) since everything was entered and reconciled.

Catch-up bookkeeping can include:
✨ Entering missing transactions
✨ Catching up bank and credit card accounts
✨ Reconciling past months
✨ Bringing your books completely up to date

Clean-up bookkeeping is a little different. Your books may be up to date, but something just isn’t quite right.

Clean-up bookkeeping can include:
🧹 Fixing incorrectly categorized transactions
🧹 Correcting account balances
🧹 Reconciling accounts that don’t match
🧹 Cleaning up other bookkeeping errors

And sometimes? Your books need a little bit of both!

Happy National Spreadsheet Day! 📊🎉

Yes, this is a real day! And yes, I am absolutely the kind of person who appreciates it. 😂

My son has been busy making crafts to sell at an upcoming craft fair. As we were talking about everything he’s made and how many of each item he has ready to sell, I casually suggested:

“You know what would make this easier? You could put it all in a spreadsheet and track what you have and the quantity of each item.”

Apparently this is what happens when your mom is a bookkeeper. 😂🤓📊

Nerd alert. 🚨

But in my defense… spreadsheets really do make everything better! Whether it’s tracking craft fair inventory, creating a budget, or keeping tabs on your business finances, there’s something very satisfying about having everything organized and being able to see exactly where things stand.

So, Happy National Spreadsheet Day from your friendly neighborhood bookkeeper who will find just about any excuse to make a spreadsheet. 😂

🍂 Fall bookkeeping check-in!

September is a great time to take a look at your books and make sure everything is up to date.

Are your accounts reconciled? Receipts organized? Any transactions still sitting in “Ask My Accountant”? 👀

A little cleanup now will make year-end a lot easier!

1099 season will be here before we know it! 📝

Save yourself some scrambling later by making sure you have a completed W-9 on file for each contractor you work with.

You’ll also want to keep track of how much you’ve paid each contractor throughout the year so you can determine if a 1099 is required.

A little prep now can make January a whole lot easier!
