Last night we attended the 9th Annual GRACE Gala: One for the Books. We were able to spend some time with my Leadership Tomorrow Group along with some great past alumni. Being a part of our community and helping to make a difference is very important to me.
My family has been affected by cancer deeply, my Mother, my Father, my Aunt, my God Mother, my Godfather, my best friends teenage sister, even myself, and SOOO MANY MORE. Everyone you know has been touched by cancer in some form. Whether it has been someone you personally love, or someone you barely know. The GRACE Foundation provides help in all sorts of ways for those that are currently going through treatment and their families to help the financial burden. The last thing someone that has been diagnosed with Cancer should have to deal with is the cost of how they will get to their treatments, how they will afford to put food on the table for their family, or how to keep a roof over their heads. Lets get real, the cost of Cancer will financially drain a family because nobody makes a savings account labeled "for when I get cancer". The cost of medications and treatments alone can be into the 6 figures. Surgical interventions well into the millions. Hearing the stories of survival and honoring those that we have lost was emotional but giving towards a foundation that we may all need one day was fulfilling. We can't wait for next year's event.
