I’ve been reviewing a lot of homeowners policies lately, and one thing I keep seeing surprises people…
Many policies have a 1% or 2% wind/hail deductible.
The problem? Most homeowners have no idea it’s there.
For example, if your home is insured for $400,000 and you have a 2% wind deductible, you could be responsible for the first $8,000 of a wind or hail claim before your insurance pays anything.
After a major storm is a terrible time to discover that.
I’m not saying these deductibles are always bad. In some situations they make sense. But I do believe homeowners should understand exactly what they’re agreeing to and what their out-of-pocket cost could be after a loss.
Do you know if your homeowners policy has a separate wind or hail deductible?
If you’re not sure, I’d be happy to help you find out.
