Have you ever noticed that your homeowner insurance policy may have a % deductible? What does that mean?

A % deductible is based off of your Coverage A or Dwelling Coverage amount. This dwelling coverage is what your home is insured for--the structure, at least. Let's say your home is insured for $300k-- if you have a 1/2% deductible; you would have a $1,500 deductible that would be applied to your claim. If it's a 2% deductible, you'd have a $6,000 deductible.

Each year, that Dwelling coverage naturally changes (usually increasing) and that means that your deductible changes as well.

It's good to know what's happening with your insurance policies and each year you should be reviewing your accounts.
