Imagine you’re 15.

Someone convinces you they understand you better than anyone else. They promise you freedom, love, a better life… so you run away.

Then everything changes. 🚨
Your phone is taken.
Your money is gone.
Your ID and belongings are taken.
You don’t have a car.
You don’t know where you are.
And the person who promised to “take care of you” is now the person controlling EVERYTHING.

Where do you go?
Who do you call?

How do you get home when everything you had to help you leave has been taken away?

THIS is the reality we need people to understand. đź’”

Trafficking doesn’t always begin with someone being physically kidnapped. It can begin with trust, manipulation, false promises, and someone slowly taking away every option until a young person feels like there is NO WAY OUT.

That’s why we have to have these conversations BEFORE our kids find themselves in a situation they don’t know how to escape.

đź“– Talk To Them.
Have the difficult conversations. Build the trust. Make sure they know that no matter what happens, they can CALL YOU.

And if you know someone who needs this book in Spanish, grab the fully translated copy of it as "Habla Con Ellos".

🚨 S*X TRAFFICKING and PROSTITUTION are NOT automatically the same thing.

And understanding the difference MATTERS.

When an adult voluntarily participates in commercial s*x without force, fraud, or coercion, that alone does not meet the federal definition of s*x trafficking.

But when FORCE, FRAUD, or COERCION is used to cause an adult to engage in a commercial s*x act, we’re talking about S*X TRAFFICKING.

And when the person involved in commercial s*x is UNDER 18?

🚨 Force, fraud, or coercion does NOT have to be proven for it to meet the federal definition of s*x trafficking.

This distinction matters because what may look like a “choice” from the outside can involve threats, manipulation, debt, fear, or control happening behind the scenes.

👀 Stop asking only, “Why are they doing this?”

Start asking, “Is someone else controlling or benefiting from what’s happening?”

Education changes the way we recognize exploitation.

🚨 Pimps are the most reliable people you will ever meet!

COERCION can do the work for them.

Threats.
Manipulation.
Isolation.
Financial control.
Fear.
Promises that suddenly come with conditions.

A trafficker can learn exactly what a victim values, fears, and needs, and then use those things as leverage to maintain CONTROL.

That’s why understanding how traffickers communicate, recruit, and manipulate is so important in these investigations. 👀

Because the more investigators understand THEIR tactics, the better equipped they can be to investigate the people using them.

🚔 Law enforcement, it’s time to turn the tables.

Did you know that when I first started working human trafficking investigations, there was only one female assigned to the unit?

The work looked very different then, and there were far fewer opportunities for women to be involved in specialized undercover operations. Over the years, I have watched more women step into these roles, bringing unique skills, perspectives, and experiences that have helped strengthen investigations and better serve victims.

Today, the need for well trained female undercover officers is greater than ever. As traffickers continue to adapt their tactics, law enforcement must continue evolving as well.

👮‍♀️ If you are a sworn law enforcement officer interested in undercover operations, check out my Female Undercover School linked in my bio and learn the skills needed to operate safely and effectively in today’s investigations.

I'm hotsing a school tomorrow Oct 13th! But you can schedule one for your agency by contacting me at achanceforawareness.com

🚩 One sign might not tell you the whole story… but what happens when the red flags start STACKING UP?

A new tattoo that looks like a name, symbol, or marking.
đźš© A controlling boyfriend who suddenly seems to make all the decisions.
🚩 Living with a “boss” or someone who controls where they stay.
đźš© A sudden change in behavior, appearance, friends, or routine.
đźš© Someone else controlling their money, phone, identification, or transportation.

INDIVIDUALLY, these things do not automatically mean someone is being trafficked.

But together? They may be telling you it’s time to PAY ATTENTION. 👀

Trafficking can involve control, manipulation, coercion, and dependency, and the indicators may be right in front of us long before we understand what is actually happening.

🔥 You can’t recognize an indicator if you’ve never been taught what to look for.

🚨 HUMAN SMUGGLING and HUMAN TRAFFICKING are NOT the same thing.

And understanding the difference MATTERS. 👏

🌎 Human smuggling is about MOVEMENT.
It generally involves helping someone illegally cross a border, typically for payment. And it's a crime against the State.

⛓️ Human trafficking is about EXPLOITATION.
It involves compelling or exploiting a person for labor or commercial s*x. And trafficking does NOT require crossing a border. A crime against a person.

A person can be trafficked in their own country.
Their own state.
Their own city.
Even their own neighborhood.
And here’s where it can get complicated… 👀

A situation that begins as smuggling can potentially turn into trafficking if that person is later exploited through force, fraud, or coercion.

đź’Ą BORDER CROSSING does not define human trafficking. EXPLOITATION does.

Think you know the difference between the myths and realities surrounding human trafficking and modern day safety? đź‘€

🚨 THE PREDATOR YOU NEED TO WORRY ABOUT MAY ALREADY BE TALKING TO YOUR CHILD — AND YOU MAY NEVER SEE THE CONVERSATION.

I know that sounds alarming. But after years working in human trafficking and law enforcement undercover operations, I can tell you something every parent needs to understand:

The way predators reach children has changed.

It doesn't always start with a stranger approaching your child in public.

It can start with a DM.
A gaming chat.
A “friend” request.
A seemingly innocent conversation.
A person who slowly builds trust.
A secret your child is afraid to tell you about.

And sometimes, parents don't know what's happening until the situation has already escalated.

That's one of the reasons I want more parents to know about Bark Technoligies.

And honestly, it's not just the phones, watches, and technology that caught my attention.

Their parent resources and blog articles are an incredible starting point for parents who want to understand what their kids are encountering online.

You don't need to be a cybersecurity expert.
You don't need to know every app your child uses.
But you do need to know what to look for, what questions to ask, and how to start the conversations that can make a difference.

That's exactly the kind of information I'm going to keep bringing you here.

đź‘€ Follow me if you want straightforward information about online safety, exploitation, trafficking awareness, and the things I believe every parent should know.

📲 SHARE it with a parent, grandparent, coach, or caregiver. You never know who needs to see this today.

And if you're considering a phone, watch, or service for your child, use my discount link for Bark and take advantage of the resources they provide for parents.

Don't wait until you have a reason to start paying attention.
Start the conversation now.
Being informed isn't being paranoid. It's being prepared.

Check out "Talk to Them" my book (Amazon.com) which is a guide for parents to conduct this difficult conversation about online safety. Translated in Spanish as "Habla Con Ellos".

đź‘€ What does someone who BUYS another person look like?

You might have a picture in your head.

But here’s the problem… buyers don’t come with a warning label. 🚨

They can have careers.
Families.
Nice homes.
College degrees.

They can be people you work with, live next to, or interact with every single day.

There is no ONE specific “look” that tells you someone is willing to purchase access to another human being.

And when we convince ourselves that only a certain “type” of person buys s*x, we make it easier to
overlook the reality of DEMAND.

💥 Human trafficking doesn’t continue without people willing to PAY.

That’s why we need to stop focusing on what we THINK a buyer looks like and start paying attention to behaviors, situations, and what is happening around us.

Buying people should NEVER be normalized.
