Energy development is rapidly expanding across Kansas, bringing new opportunities — and new questions — for farmers and ranchers. To help you stay informed and prepared, Kansas Farm Bureau is hosting a series of regional breakfast meetings focused on what’s happening now and what’s ahead. These meetings are for Farm Bureau members only and require registration at www.kfb.org/KFBenergymeetings.

What we’ll cover:

1. Current state of play — and what’s coming next
We’ll break down the latest developments in wind, solar, battery storage, data centers and transmission infrastructure, including maps and Southwest Power Pool (SPP) plans. You’ll also learn how to track and stay informed about projects in your area.

2. County zoning — why it matters
We’ll discuss the differences between zoned and unzoned counties, what each means for development and local control and how county Farm Bureaus can engage effectively in the process.

3. What landowners can expect
From contracts, leases and easements to navigating property rights between participating and nonparticipating landowners, we’ll walk through key considerations. We’ll also cover when and how to engage, including guidance on seeking legal counsel and how both landowners and county Farm Bureaus can be involved.

Meeting format:
These will be informal breakfast meetings beginning at 7:30 a.m. and lasting approximately 1.5 hours, so you can get back to the field. Specific location details will be available soon and we’ll email those details to registrants.

Upcoming dates and locations:

April 28 — South Central Kansas (Wichita)
April 29 — Southwest Kansas (Garden City)
May 12 — Northwest Kansas (Goodland)
June 9 — Southeast Kansas (Girard)

Whether you’re directly approached for a project or simply want to understand how energy development could impact your community, these meetings are designed to provide practical, timely information. These meetings are for Farm Bureau members only. If any non-member wants to join, they can become a member at www.kfb.org/join.
