Did you receive a Palomar bill in the mail?

📢 Crop Insurance Premium Update

The USDA Risk Management Agency has approved additional time before interest begins accruing on certain crop insurance premium and administrative-fee payments with billing dates between July 1 and September 30, 2026.

What this means:
• Your policy termination date has NOT changed. Premiums and fees must still be paid by the termination date to keep your coverage and eligibility in place.
• July 1 billing date: Pay by September 30 to avoid interest.
• August 15 billing date: Pay by November 30 to avoid interest.
• Rainfall Index policies with a September 1 billing date: Pay before the December 1 termination date to avoid interest.

This extension does not apply to livestock policies. Palomar private-product policies are unchanged and do not begin accruing interest until December 1.

🚨 After a Hail Claim — Don't Sign That Paper! 🚨

⚠️ We are seeing this happening right here in our area. After recent hail events, contractors and storm chasers are going door-to-door in our community asking homeowners to sign Assignment of Benefits agreements. Please share this post so your friends and neighbors are aware.

If a contractor shows up at your door after a hailstorm and asks you to sign an Assignment of Benefits (AOB), stop and read this first.

What is an AOB? It's a document that transfers YOUR insurance rights directly to the contractor. Once you sign, they control your claim — not you.

🚫 In Kansas, it's now against the law. Kansas Senate Bill 55, effective July 1, 2026, prohibits the assignment of post-loss insurance benefits under residential property insurance policies. These agreements are declared against public policy and legally void — and any contractor who solicits one can face action by the Kansas Insurance Commissioner for unfair and deceptive practices.

Even before the law, here's why AOBs were always a bad idea:

❌ You lose control of your own claim. The contractor negotiates and settles with your insurer — without your input.

❌ You can't easily change your mind. Backing out or switching contractors can be complicated and costly.

❌ You may face unexpected bills. If there's a dispute between the contractor and your insurer, you could be caught in the middle — or face a lien on your property.

❌ Inflated claims put YOU at risk. Padded or fraudulent claims filed in your name can affect your coverage and future premiums.

❌ You surrender your right to accept the settlement. Your insurer's offer goes straight to the contractor. You may never even see it.

✅ What you SHOULD do instead:

File your claim directly with your insurance agent or carrier.
Get multiple repair estimates before committing to a contractor.
Call your agent with any questions — we're here to protect YOUR interests.
Your insurance policy is YOUR contract. Kansas law now backs you up — don't hand your rights over to anyone. 📞 Call us before you sign anything.
