Dear Valued Customers- if you have family or friends in CA, my prayers to you and them. I wanted to share some helpful tips whether they are impacted or not. Please share as you deem necessary!
1. Advise them to call their insurance company to see if they have homeowners insurance coverage.
2. Ask to make sure payment/ bill are paid up to date to prevent the loss in their coverage. Never let coverage lapse in times like this…but also check with local jurisdiction in case there is a moratorium to suspend coverage from lapsing.
3. If they are being evacuated due to ordinances , they may have coverage under their policy for Additional Living Expenses even if the home is not damage…meaning hotels, temporary housing, etc. are covered.
4. Ins companies usually don’t cancel a policies midterm, however, they can non-renew policies at renewal only. Meaning if a customer received a letter July 2023 that their policy is being non-renewed in June of 2025, then they will still have coverage until June 2025. This means they are still covered even when the policy is in pending non-renewal status! Make sure they call to verify the date of non-renewal with their carrier.
5. I can’t speak for other companies, but SF has set up a hotline/link/text for catastrophic events like this for customers to file a claim. The best way is to reach their local State Farm agent for all related inquiries about the devastation fire!
Please stay safe and prayers are with the folks in CA!!!
