As many of you know, damage caused by Hurricane in the Southeast has wreaked havoc, and in come cases, beyond repair. Thousands of families are homeless with nothing to their names, hundreds are unaccounted for, and hundreds dead. In many towns across North Carolina and South Carolina, FEMA trucks are turning around due to road closure signs, and private donors are taking supplies to the families affected via four wheelers. My in-laws, Randy and Beth Ahlgrim, have taken multiple trips with trailers, tractor trailers, etc to donate supplies, and BODY BAGs are some of the highest requested items. This is DEVASTATING. For the remainder of the year, for EVERY transaction I have close, I will be donating $300 per loan I originate to the Covenant Fellowship, a church in Bristol, VA that has been doing AMAZING things for those in need in the NC/SWVA/E TN areas. Back in 2012, I had the honor of spending a few hours with Wayne Gretzky, and the conversations had still come to mind very often (especially the "empty handed" story many of my teammates remember- we will save that one for a different day 😂). As a college athlete at the time, much of our conversation was focused around sport, and at the time, his son, Trevor, was in the Chicago Cubs farm system. Towards the end of the night, I brought up his famous quote, "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take" with the focus being around sports, but Wayne replied, "you will learn that this doesn't only apply to sport, but everything you experience in life." At the time, that didn't make much sense to a young 19 year old, but couldn't be more relevant in current times. As someone who's worked in sales for the past nine years, there are MANY ways you can break this down:

Opportunity Awaits: EVERY lead and introduction is a potential win. If you don’t reach out, you’ve already lost. Don’t let fear hold you back.

Learn from Every Attempt: Not every touch/email will lead to a sale, but each one teaches you something valuable. Embrace the learning process.

Be Persistent: Success often comes after multiple attempts. Keep following up and engaging with prospects—your next “yes” might be just around the corner. Remember- the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Confidence is Key: The more shots you take, the more confident you become. Trust yourself and your value add.

Growth Mindset: Each outreach is a step toward improvement. Don’t shy away from the challenge; lean into it!
