A loan officer (LO) on my team just lost a refinance to a competitor.
The reason? The client said: "I didn't know you did refinances..."
UGH.
This LO helped them BUY the house. They worked together for weeks. Built trust. Closed the deal. Celebrated at the closing table.
But somehow, the client walked away thinking he was just "the purchase guy."
Fast forward 18 months. Rates drop. The client is ready to refinance. And instead of calling the person who helped them get into the house... they went somewhere else.
This is the mortgage industry's most expensive mistake.
