We’ve got a challenge for you: Make a list of every single valuable thing you own without looking around your house–no peeking! Kind of hard, right? Now imagine doing that after your home has been damaged by 🌪️, 🌀, or 🚒.

Talk about stress on top of stress. While we hope you never need it, creating a personal property inventory will give you peace of mind you’re covered if disaster strikes.

Here’s how to make yours:
1. Record a complete video walk-thru of your home, narrating details as you go. Include item description; model, serial number, and manufacturer if applicable; and cost and purchase date to the best of your memory.
2. Take photos from various angles of every room in your house. Don’t forget to photograph items such as jewelry, silver, or valuable collections!
3. Take photos of any receipts or instruction manuals to document high-ticket items.
4. Upload your videos and photos to a cloud-based storage platform.

Ever heard somebody say they don’t need renter’s insurance because they don’t have anything valuable? Yeah, us too 😬

Today, we’ve got some bad news for people who don’t think they need renter’s insurance: this policy type is not only usually required by landlords, but it also covers much more than the value of the items in your home.

Here’s a helpful coverage overview:

⚖️ Personal liability: If someone is injured on your property and blames you, your renter’s insurance will usually cover liability costs, including legal bills. Standard policies cover $100,000.

💰 Living costs: If your rental is no longer habitable because of a covered issue, your renter’s insurance will help pay for your additional living costs.

📺 Personal items: You might be surprised by the value of the items in your home, especially in these inflationary times!

➕ Other things like debris removal and credit card/check forgery can be covered in some cases.
