PMI or private mortgage insurance is required for conventional loans when your down payment is less than 20% of the loan. The Fed raised policy rates by 0.75% at their June meeting. Mortgage rates had already risen in anticipation of the move. It's expected the Fed will continue moving rates up at each meeting this year, so long as conditions warrant.
