2023 is my year to GIVE. But I love sharing stories about other Go-Givers I have met and know. These people inspire me everyday!

I have a Go-Giver story to share with you today. I met a realtor about a month ago. She is part of an amazing real-estate group. And I have gotten to see what a Go-Giver she is, very quickly. She has sent me two clients over the last 30 days. What does that mean and what does that say about her? What it tells me is that this realtor establishes a strong level of trust with her clients. There is so much trust there that the client has asked her for recommendations for other needs he/she has, such as home insurance. Buying a home is one of the biggest purchases a person will ever make. And so the client wants to find the best people to write the loan for it, to inspect it to make sure it is a good purchase, and to insure this pricey purchase. They don't want just anyone doing these things. They want a trusted referral. So this realtor has taken the time to not only establish trusted referral partner relationships to be able to have trusted individuals to give to her client, she has established the trusted advisor relationship with her client where her client cares and wants to know who she would recommend. I think that anytime a client is willing to take recommendations from their realtor, it means that realtor has done an amazing job at establishing that trusting relationship with their client.

But not only this, I have seen this realtor work her tail off for her clients at all days of the week and all hours of the day. Whatever is needed, she is going to do it. Why? Because she cares! She is a Go-Giver! Her commitment to excellent service is outstanding.

Thank you realtors for all that you do for your clients!

There are so many things that your client needs recommendations for. A loan officer, a title company, an inspector, etc. Insurance agent should also be on your list.

I recently shared that I have been reading the Go-Giver books and trying to center and focus what I do around giving. Well today, I want to share with you about a true Go-Giver that I met a few months back.

This Go-Giver is a loan processor. She works hard for a local area team and loves her team. You never hear anything from her outside of loving the group she works with and for.

But beyond being a Go-Giver to her team, let me tell you about how she is a Go-Giver for her team’s clients.

She reviews a lot of files and one of the things that has to be in line for a home loan to go through is home insurance. So she has to make sure that is in place. She could take the easy route and pass along a file that simply has home insurance. But instead, if she notices that something seems amiss with their insurance, she reviews this with them and acts as a trusted advisor. Does she have to do that? No! Would it be easier for her, require less time, less burden, to pass along a file that already has home insurance, even if that premium seems ridiculously high? It absolutely would be easier. But that is not the kind of person she is. She is a Go-Giver! When she sees something that is wrong, she doesn’t stick her head in the sand. She doesn’t take the easy way out. She stops and takes the time to help.

I would want a loan processor to care that much about me. Wouldn’t you? I hope all loan processors take the time to spot things that don’t look right to them, question them, and go above and beyond to help a customer.

It’s Go-Givers like this loan processor who show me a better way of giving, each and every day!

Reflecting back on 2022:

Much of 2022 feels like a blur. So many things happened so fast this year. I can positively say that 2022 was a whirlwind year.
But a few big milestones from the year were:

• Being promoted to Chief Operating Officer for the company I had worked so hard for and loved so much over the last four years
• Becoming a licensed insurance agent. I literally registered for my course on 7/1/22 and had completed it by 7/7/22 and passed my licensing exam on 7/13/22
• Opening my own insurance agency (The Lane Agency – Goosehead Insurance) in September
• December being my first month to sit in the top ten leaderboard for Goosehead agents in the state of Tennessee for new business

Those being big moments of the year, I believe the things I will remember most is the kindness and support I have received from others this year.

Starting a new career at 44 has its challenges. My connections and network have formerly been across many states in the US. My local connections and network was much smaller due to the fact I worked out of town for most of the last 17 years. So, starting a business that relied on local contacts hasn’t been easy.

But people have been nice. People have been kind. People have helped. People have supported. The generosity pouring out from others has been heart-warming to say the least.

The openness of complete strangers to accept breakfast or lunch invites or to meet me one time and be willing to send me business has made me feel so very blessed.

2023 will be my year to continue what I have started in 2022. And that is to Give Back! To be just as willing and open with others as others have been with me. To focus on what I can give to and do for others versus what I can receive. The Go-Giver principles will be my continued focus in 2023.

I hope that with that, I will continue to meet new and wonderful people this coming year. Establish new and strong partnerships. Continue to foster and grow the relationships that I have gained this year. And to become a trusted advisor to others.

Thank you to each and every one of you who have spent any amount of time with me in 2022. Your time was valued and appreciated. As the song says in my company video, “it’s a good day, good life, I just want to celebrate all night!” I hope everyone has a Happy New Year!

The power of persistence....Since starting my own insurance agency, I have sent out a lot of emails and messages to referral partners trying to get meetings. And some of these requests do not receive responses. But some do. And when they do, it can turn into something great.

One of the people I reached out to immediately responded with "I would love to meet you as well." And "looking forward to meeting you." So we set up a breakfast. We had a good laugh over messaging about our families love for Waffle House.

When we met for breakfast, I was immediately greeted by one of the warmest, sweetest individuals I have ever met. She had recently moved to the area and was in a similar position as me. Trying to get her business off the ground. We must have sat for 2 hours sharing stories about career, spouses, kids, family, etc. This meeting turned into a new friendship.

Not only did this meeting turn into a new friendship, on Friday, it turned into a partnership. She sent me her first client referral!

I am so thankful for the people I have met through random, blind requests for meetings. These people have taken time to meet with a complete stranger and have had an open heart to being willing to refer to someone new.

If you are struggling with receiving "no's" or people are not willing to meet with you, don't give up! There are many who will and your persistence will pay off. And as a result, you will be blessed with meeting and making relationships with people you would have never met before. Keep trying!

What makes me happier than deep dish pizza at Giordano's!?!

Getting my very first REALTOR referral this week!!!!

Last week, I visited with the amazing team of realtors at Live Love Memphis Group at The Real Estate Agency and Live Love Desoto Group at The Real Estate Agency and one of the agents sent me a referral this week!

The client she sent me is super sweet and moving from Ohio to Tennessee/Mississippi for a job working with St. Jude. She was so grateful for this realtor for helping her find the perfect home and making this big move so easy and exciting for her!

Thank you to this realtor for being my FIRST! It is so nice when you meet people and find you left enough of an impression for them to refer you to someone else. I'm so thankful!

Nobody loves Mondays right? But guess why I love this Monday!?! I just received my second referral from a high performing loan officer here in Memphis in less than a weeks time. I am absolutely blown away at the willingness of loan officers and realtors who have been in the business for decades to be willing to recommend someone new to their clients.

This particular loan officer is someone I started following in the very beginning of this new career. He caught my attention because of his charitable work with a cause near and dear to my heart, the Alzheimer's Association®. And to top it off, he also supports another great cause, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital - ALSAC. But beyond being a great loan officer and a charitable giver, he also manages to be a great father and finds time to take care of his own health and fitness. I am not sure where he finds the time.

Anyways, it is people like him as well as the others I have been regularly posting about that make my Mondays! And make my every day! Thank you all for having a willing, open heart and mind for paying attention to and listening to someone new. It is appreciated more than you can possibly know!

A few weeks ago, I brought lunch to a mortgage group. They were so warm and welcoming. A few even let me quote them on the spot for their own policies. One of the agents who has since sent me a few referrals said the following: "There was something about you that I liked. You were right. Your rates are better than the others I give out to check." I am thrilled when I hear things like this.

There will be times when I will not win in rate, but I will always try. And I hope to always win in customer service experience and referral partner partnership. An excellent experience for all is what I want to be able to always give.
