Wednesday, I had the honor of graduating from Leadership Georgetown, and I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on what an impactful experience these last 9 months have been.
Leadership Georgetown gave me the opportunity to learn more deeply about our community, the people who serve it, and the many organizations working behind the scenes to make Georgetown such a special place. More than anything, it reminded me how important connection and community truly are.
For my class commitment speech, I shared how much I value being a connector — helping people feel plugged into the community, supported, and seen. I truly believe that if you want a strong community, you have to help build it.
One of the most meaningful parts of this experience was working on our class project for the Home Base Program at the Baptist Children’s Home. Home Base serves young adults ages 18–24 who have aged out of the foster care system by providing life skills support, education assistance, career guidance, and community.
Our class had the opportunity to build a new outdoor gathering space complete with a deck, two shade structures, furniture, and grills — creating a place where these young adults can relax, connect, and build community of their own.
I’m incredibly grateful for the relationships built throughout this program, the lessons learned, and the chance to serve alongside such an amazing group of leaders. Georgetown is truly special, and I’m excited to continue investing in this community for years to come.
