Great tips for the cold temperatures! Stay safe and warm! 🥶

PROTECT YOUR PIPES IN THE COLD...

With temperatures dropping to 20 below or colder and highs only around 10 below, this is the kind of cold that can cause real problems, especially if you live in a mobile home or an older house that isn’t well insulated.

Here are a few quick tips to help prevent frozen pipes:

✅ Let faucets drip (a slow drip helps keep water moving)

✅ Open cabinet doors under sinks so warm air can reach the pipes

✅ Don’t lower your thermostat overnight — when the house cools down, cold air can find the drafty spots and weak points, and that’s when pipes in exterior walls or crawlspaces can freeze fast

✅ If your sink is on an exterior wall: open cabinets + let it drip

✅ Close the garage door to protect plumbing in cold spots

✅ Know the location of your main water shutoff valve (just in case there’s an emergency)

If you notice low water flow or frost on pipes, don’t wait, take action early before it turns into a bigger mess.

🚗Few to no passengers for new drivers
🚗No texting or phone calls
🚗Buckle up - every single time.
🚗Drive sober
🚗No speeding
🚗Drowsiness is dangerous, too

Winter Rules:
❄️ Slow down & increase following distance
❄️ Keep the gas tank full
❄️ Never use your cruise control

The George Fire Department received a donation from Century Mutual Insurance Association out of Hartley, IA on behalf of Northwest Consultants of Lyon County. A golf benefit was held to raise funds for the Fire Departments in the communities in which Century Mutual writes insurance coverage. The benefit was held on July 16, 2025 as its 33nd Annual event and raised $6,040.00 for surrounding departments. Presenting the check are agents of Northwest Consultants: Jim McConnell and Melissa Grave, also a George firefighter. Also pictured is Matt Grave and Bill Sprock. Northwest Consultants thanks George Fire for all they do for our community!
