What's Changing for Medicare in 2027👇

📰 Bruce Boettcher of Boettcher Insurance Agency was interviewed in the Chicago Tribune's Medicare Open Enrollment section this week!

Bruce shared what Medicare beneficiaries should know before choosing a 2027 plan:

✅ The new GLP-1 Bridge: eligible members can get Wegovy, Zepbound, or Foundayo for a $50 monthly copay
✅ Part D deductibles can go up to $700 in 2027
✅ If you travel often, a Medicare Supplement may give you more flexibility
✅ Carriers change their drug lists every year, so a plan that worked in 2026 may cost you more in 2027

Fall Travel Insurance: Is your trip covered? 🎣✈️

Fall is prime travel season — road trips, fishing trips, flights for weddings and games, family visits before winter. It's also prime season for storms, delays, and last-minute mishaps. A few real situations where coverage matters:

Fishing trip in Canada. Guide and lodge paid up front, then you throw your back out two days before you leave — trip cancellation coverage reimburses those costs. And once you're across the border, your regular health insurance may not cover you if someone gets hurt or sick on the trip.

Flight to a college football weekend. Fall storms wreak havoc on schedules — trip delay coverage can cover an extra hotel night or rebooking fees.

Flying out for a fall wedding. These trips are paid for well in advance, so a health issue before or during the trip is where cancellation and medical coverage matter most.

Don't Let a Missed SEP Cost You Coverage
We get it — life is busy. But when it comes to health insurance, putting things off can cost you money, coverage gaps, and a lot of stress. Here's a friendly reminder of why acting early makes all the difference.

Medicare Won't Wait for You
Medicare enrollment windows are strict. Unless you qualify for Medicare through disability, missing your Initial Enrollment Period around your 65th birthday can mean a lifetime late enrollment penalty. We teach our clients to plan ahead.

Build in extra time
Don't wait until the last week of the month.
The application process can be time-consuming. The timing can be challenging with certain deadlines.

Don't Forget Your Termination Letter
If you're leaving a previous insurance plan — whether it's an employer plan, a marketplace plan, or anything else — get that termination letter. Many carriers now require proof of prior creditable coverage when you apply for a Special Enrollment Period. Without it, your new application can be delayed or denied. And remember, a Special Enrollment Period gives you 60 days from the qualifying event.

Don't Get Fooled by This Fake MyChart Email

Scammers are sending fake emails and texts pretending to be MyChart, dangling a
"free MyChart Medicare Kit" or "Senior Health Package" to get you to click a link.
That link leads to a fake page built to steal your personal info. Several health
systems have warned patients about it, and Epic (the company behind MyChart)
says scammers are cashing in on how much people trust that brand. These scams
are getting sneakier by the day, even tech folks say they're hard to catch
sometimes.

How to stay safe:

-Don't click links in emails or texts you weren't expecting — open the MyChart
app yourself or type the website in directly
-MyChart will NEVER ask you to press keyboard shortcuts or change the
email/phone number on your account.
-If something feels off, call your doctor's office and ask before clicking or
entering anything
Share this with anyone who might see it land in their inbox. A two-minute phone
call beats losing your info to a scammer.
