Lost your car title? 📄

Good news first. If you simply lost it, replacing it is straightforward: visit a TxDMV regional service center, complete form VTR-34 with every recorded owner signing, show a photo ID, pay the fee, and you get a certified copy. No bond needed.

A bonded title is a different animal. That one is for vehicles with ownership questions, and it takes a surety bond before the county will issue anything.

What actually sets the price of a Texas dealer bond? 💵

Mostly your credit. The state sets the bond amount, but the rate you pay on it is underwritten, and every surety company runs the bond holder's credit rating. Bonds that come back high risk cost considerably more than clean ones.
