The DMV is adding images showing California’s natural beauty to the design along with enhanced anti-counterfeit elements and other features. The DMV will add a digital security signature to one of the two barcodes on the back of the cards. California will be one of the first states to add this kind of digital signature. In addition, the new cards will no longer have a magnetic strip on the back.

The fee for the upgraded driver’s license remains at $45. Identification cards are $39.

✅ What’s happening

California’s CAV decal program expires on September 30, 2025.

Effective October 1st 2025, EVs decals will no longer allow HOV / carpool lane access for single-occupant.

⚠️ What this means for you

If your car has a CAV decal now, after September 30, 2025, you cannot legally use the carpool.

🛻To use the HOV lane, you’ll have to follow the usual occupancy requirements at least 2 or 3 people.

💵 Ticket fines upto $490.

Sau ngày 30 tháng 9, 2025, tất cả xe điên (EVs)🛻 không được miễn đi một người trong làn đường dành cho 2 người trở lên (Carpool).

Bắt đầu ngày 1 tháng 10, 2025, nếu bạn vi phạm quy định sử dụng làn carpool mà không có 2 người trơ lên, hoạc sử dụng xe điên nếu đi một người, bạn có thể bị phạt.

Ví dụ ở California, vi phạm sử dụng làn carpool bị xử lý như một vi phạm giao thông (infraction) mức phạt tối thiểu khoảng 💵$490.
