We are saddened to announce that Realty Exchange Corporation's founder, Retired Air Force Col. Edwin (Ed) Vincent Horan, MBA, passed away on January 4th, 2025, at the age of 94. Ed was an early pioneer of the 1031 exchange industry, starting Realty Exchange Corporation (REC) in 1990 when the regulations creating the role of Qualified Intermediaries and permitting delayed exchanges were enacted. He taught thousands of real estate agents the fundamentals of 1031 exchanges, was active in the 1031 exchange industry across the country, including with the industry's association, the Federation of Exchange Accommodators, and authored a 1031 exchange book which we still use and share as a resource today. Until the end of last year, Ed was still involved in the market, tracking the possible and actual effects of tax bills on the 1031 industry, and all of us at REC will miss his insight and passion immensely. With REC marking its 35th year of service this summer, his legacy will be carried on through his son, Bill; grandson, Jeff, who now own and run the business; and his daughter, Cindy, past REC president and current member of staff!
