🌀 **AFTER THE STORM: STAY SAFE, PROTECT YOUR HOME & KNOW YOUR OPTIONS** 🏡
It's been several days since the storm, and many Florida families are still without power. As cleanup and recovery continue, Amanda Campbell Agency wants to share a few important reminders to help you stay safe and avoid costly mistakes.
⚠️ **1. SAFETY FIRST**
✔️ Stay away from downed power lines, standing water, and damaged structures.
✔️ Never walk or drive through floodwaters.
✔️ Keep generators outdoors, at least 20 feet from your home and away from windows and doors. Never operate one in a garage.
✔️ Check local boil-water notices and discard spoiled food.
✔️ Take photos and videos of damage before cleanup, when safe to do so.
✔️ Make temporary repairs to prevent further damage and save your receipts.
💰 **2. KNOW YOUR HURRICANE DEDUCTIBLE**
Locate your **hurricane deductible on your policy's coverage or declarations page.**
Compare the estimated cost of repairs to your deductible. If repairs cost less than your deductible, your insurance generally won't provide a payment for that damage.
Before filing, review your deductible, obtain a repair estimate when practical, and understand your options. Remember, not all storm damage is covered under the same deductible, and certain claims may be subject to different policy provisions.
If you're unsure about your deductible or coverage, we're happy to help you understand your options. Report damage promptly, as required by your policy.
🔨 **3. HIRING A CONTRACTOR? VERIFY BEFORE YOU SIGN!**
Unfortunately, dishonest contractors often target homeowners following a storm.
Before hiring anyone:
✔️ Verify their Florida contractor's license at www.MyFloridaLicense.com.
✔️ Request proof of general liability and workers' compensation insurance (or applicable exemption).
✔️ Confirm coverage is active with the insurance provider.
✔️ Get written estimates and contracts.
✔️ Never pay the full cost upfront.
🚩 Be cautious of anyone promising to waive your insurance deductible, demanding immediate payment, or pressuring you to sign a contract.
