🏈Weekends are for football!
Friday night home games with a car full of kids, Saturday tailgates in Ann Arbor (or Lansing👎🏻), Sunday watching the Detroit Lions = fall in Michigan.

Whether you're heading to a local Friday night game, tailgating for a Michigan or Michigan State game on Saturday, or cheering on the Lions on Sunday, here's a quick insurance reminder before you hit the road:

If you're hauling coolers, chairs, grills, sports equipment and half the contents of your garage to a tailgate, don't assume every item is automatically covered the way you think it is.

And if you're using a trailer, borrowing someone's vehicle, or bringing recreational equipment along, that's worth a quick insurance check too.

We'll worry about the insurance questions. You worry about making it to kickoff. 😉

🍁Your house has a fall to-do list. Your insurance policy should too.

Before we trade lawn chairs for leaf rakes, take 10 minutes to look around your house.

A few things worth checkings:

🏠Have you made any improvements? New roof? Finished basement? New deck? Remodel?

💰Have you bought anything expensive? Jewelry, electronics, furniture, equipments, etc.

🔥Is your furnace ready for another Michigan winter?

🌳Do you have dead or damaged trees/branches that should come down before winter storms?

📸Do you have current photos or a home inventory?

And perhaps the biggest questions:

If you had to rebuild your house today, would your current coverage still be enough?

Your insurance policy shouldn't be a "set it and forget it" document.

Your life changes. Your house changes. Your stuff changes.

Your insurance should keep up.

🦌Michigan drivers: deer season is coming. Do you know what your insurance does if you hit one?

We're heading into the time of year when deer become a much bigger concern on Michigan roads. And unfortunately, "I have full coverage" doesn't always tell you what you need to know.

If you hit a deer, comprehensive coverage is generally the coverage that applies to the damage to your vehicle - not collision.

And here's another important one: if you swerve to avoid the deer and hit a tree, ditch, or another vehicle, that can be a different coverage situation.

So before the leaves really start changing, it's worth knowing:

🦌Do I have comprehensive coverage?
💰What is my deductible?
🚗Do I have rental coverage if my vehicle is in the shop?

A 30-second conversation with your agent now can be a lot less stressful than figuring it out from the side of the road.

And if you're driving around West Michigan this fall.. keep an eye out. Those deer are NOT checking their mirrors. 😆

Life Insurance Awareness Month has been a huge focus in our office this year ❤

Life Insurance isn't really about the policy. It's about the mortgage that still gets paid. The kids who still get to stay in their home. The plans you've worked so hard to build. And giving your family one less thing to worry about if the unexpected happens.

Our team has been having more conversations about life insurance, helping people put coverage in place, reviewing policies they already have, and- probably my favorite part- watching people realize that protecting their family may be much more affordable than they ever expected.

We've been hearing a lot of "I always assumed it would be too expensive." And then, "That's it?! I wish I would have done this sooner!".

That is EXACTLY why the conversation is so important to have. It's not out of reach for the majority.

If something were stolen or damaged, would you know what coverage applies?

Coverage for a student can depend on whether you're living in a dorm, renting an apartment, what type of policy you have, and the circumstances of the loss.

And if they're living off-campus, renters insurance may be something to consider.

Before storm season hits, take a few minutes to photograph your home and belongings.

Having current photos, receipts, and an inventory of your belongings can make the claims process much easier if something unexpected happens.
